The thing for me about the Phat in MPhatik is that even though phat is a cliche, it gets a pass because it's actually part of the word emphatic and therefore (imo) a kind of whimsical use of it (as opposed to it's all to uncomfortably serious use in other contexts).goldglob wrote:MPulse sounds like something from the 70's.
MPhatik (with the k) is clever and looks nice...but actually, Phat is a cliche, and emphatic is weak (would anyone call a synth 'Emphatic' ? "have you heard about that new synth Emphatic...er..no".
MSynth tells it like it is..proudly...it's timeless. And future synths could be MSynthSomething.
I kind of agree about your opinion of the word emphatic, though I don't think that no one calling a synth a name like Emphatic is necessarily a good reason not to call a synth a name like Emphatic. I think it's good to challenge norms, even if it's the norms of synth names. That said, I wouldn't call it a weak name, but I wouldn't call it edgy either, and I sort of like edginess. However, I thought the change of spelling and use of the M and k brought some edginess to the word, at least visually.
