The only time I get annoyed is if I've not used the item to its fullest in the meantime and I could have waited.
But that's just luck and hardly the devs fault.
It's always going to happen regardless of what product one buys. Cars, property, shares, food, etc etc etc.

If so, what time frame is reasonable for insisting on a refund?
what if you get a refund, shouldnt the guy who bought it a day before that be entitled to one? what about the guy who bought it the day before that, or the week, or ten years ago? why be unfair to them?
what about the guy who's on holiday until the day after the sale? shouldnt he get the sale price too? and the guy who's in a coma until two years from now?
btw, please try hard not to think exactly how much money you'll 'lose' on food and groceries in your life because you missed out on sale dates. do you think they should refund you for every one you miss out on too?
if you paid more than you thought it was actually worth to you, that's your fault. if the sale price becomes the definition of its value to you, you're doing it wrong. seriously, if you didnt want to pay what you did, why the hell did you?
there's something really really wrong when folk get worked up about the prospect that someone somewhere might have got to pay less for something than they did.
seriously, if the worst thing that ever happens to you in this world is that someone else gets to buy the same toys as you, but cheaper, you're doing well.

So you don't believe in grace periods for upgrades as well?ATS wrote:You agreed to a certain price and you got what you paid for.careyletendre wrote:Does it bother you when you buy an instrument or effect plugin and then a week later it goes on sale?

Yeah, and a week later someone else get the same for 50% less what leaves you with the question was the asking price i paid really necessary? I would say obviously no.ATS wrote:You agreed to a certain price and you got what you paid for.careyletendre wrote:Does it bother you when you buy an instrument or effect plugin and then a week later it goes on sale?

Straw man. Thinking you're entitled to a refund because the developer temporarily offers a discount at some point after you decided it was worth the undiscounted price has nothing to do with whether the developer does or doesn't offer a different kind of discount under completely unrelated circumstances.careyletendre wrote:So you don't believe in grace periods for upgrades as well?ATS wrote:You agreed to a certain price and you got what you paid for.careyletendre wrote:Does it bother you when you buy an instrument or effect plugin and then a week later it goes on sale?

Or are we supposed to buy in to the theory that being actually offered such a thing as grace period updates in the first place, something which doesnt actually happen for any other class of product in the world btw, somehow adds to a sense of entitlement to never wind up paying more than any other person might have?
I certainly do believe, btw, that no matter what the grace period is, someone will always complain that they bought it the day/week/month before it started.

That entirely depends on when you needed it right there and then or not. But I pretty much reckon that for all of the people who whinge about this kind of thing, ie those who dont actually need it as a tool, its merely a toy and is never actually 'necessary' in the first place.valerian_777 wrote:Yeah, and a week later someone else get the same for 50% less what leaves you with the question was the asking price i paid really necessary? Firstly, the grace period is not completely unrelated.whyterabbyt wrote:Straw man. Secondly, if you were to carefully read my post, you would see that at no time have i ever stated that i deserved a refend. I'm simply asking how other people feel given a proposed scenario.
In retrospect i think this is a interesting experiment with respect to the difference between what is said and what is inferred. So if you must know, i recently purchased some software that went on sale a week later and thought about whether i should expect to be compensated for the difference in price and came to the conclusion that I a) like the product, b) feel the product is worth what i paid and c) am happy to support said developer at the agreed price.

it's just part of life, and is not unique to software. having said that, i do feel that some companies take it too far. there is a fine line between drumming up business, increasing user-base, and completely devaluing the product. i think camelaudio did a great job of this with their sale, a few years back. it was made very clear that alchemy would not be discounted regularly (if at all), after that sale. and they kept to it.
like vitaminD, i have really made a habit of not paying full whack for products (though i do make an exception with SOME ios apps). kvr can be a great resource for getting a lot, for a lot less.
familiarise yourself with the companies that NEVER discount products
familiarise yourself with the companies that NEVER allow license transfers
you'll be left with some products that you know you'll have to pony up full-whack, should you wish to own them
as for the rest ?? keep an eye on the marketplace. check into sales histories for these products. and if you absolutely have to own it NOW, then realise it's just a lottery, work out whether it is of value to you at the current price, then just buy it
there is one company, though, that take the whole thing to extremes (especially with their ios apps). i kinda feel it would be a public service to make sure all potential buyers knew how often their sales were.

Next time their is a sale on for a synth you want you can buy it the day it goes on sale, then you will have the bargain...
(but what about the person who paid full price the day before, would you feel bad for him/her or just pleased you have got it for a bargain price?)...
