The results so far;
It's obviously an early beta.The original scan of my VST folder took 10 minutes,and the audio engine wasn't starting up.Sluggish response.Rebooted.This time,it opened quickly,and any changes I made in my preferences went quickly.Have audio this time.I load up a synth(Mothership),open a MIDI clip and draw in a sequence.Everything's working fine,the MIDI channel's meters are showing input,but-no sound(could be operator error).Load the demo song-that works fine(their sampler's pretty cool
).Close the song and shut down Live-it stays in processes,forcing a hard reboot
Time to read the manual and see if it has answers
EDIT:it was operator error
MIDI recording working fine.

Live 3 always takes over 10 mins if it has to re-scan my VST plugins dir. Also a few tend to crash
Only strange thing I have ound in Live 4 so far is that enabling/disabling a MIDI port makes the program unresponsive for about 15 seconds.

early initial response is that it looks pretty good (bearing in mind the early nature of the beta) ...
... had the same wierd initial install and run audio engine problems as mentioned above but on running for a second time everything seems fine so far ...
... CPU usage up a bit from live3 ???

Glad to hear some feedback. I'd love to hear some about the impulse, simpler instruments along with the midi editing. Anybody tried'em so far?

Any sign of a "get user groove" function?

That's because we're too busy playing with themAD80 wrote:Wow, no "Glowing" reviews yet. I'm surprised. I thought everybody would be floored by the new features.
I'm absolutely blown away. Sure there are some bugs, but it is absolutely the best host I have ever used. The MIDI clips are fantastic! They are elegant, appear simple, but very powerful! I can now layer bunches of Reason Modules via rewire! Automation is just like 3.0's audio clips, copying automation between clips is a breeze...they don't have to be the same parameters either. You can easily route a bunch of midi channels to an audio track an resample them.
Everything just makes so much sense in this host! They keep the audio and midi clips so similar that it makes it seemless to work with.
I like Simpler a great deal! Just browse some samples, drop it in and go. Very "simple" and fast.
Impulse is really cool. The paradigm of select sample, drop it in the "pad", and then you have all of the parameter changes for that pad that are tweakable with full automation per pad. Each pad has its own filter, pan, velocity settings, and a way cool "stretch" amount to get that gritty ableton timestretch effect...great on snares and what not...also totally automatable per pad.
This will definitely be the last host I use. Reason is going to be there as a rack of modules, but the sequencing is just killer in Live4!
