or even more sadly, because they do "know" who they are

does that come in 64 bit?Frantz wrote:Do what all the pros do. Use "Deluxe StyleMaker Pro - Deep House Edition." After selecting a few options, it generates Ableton templates in your own personal style. It's a huge time saver and lets you focus on the more important aspects of style: haircuts and sunglasses.
People not looking outside their own sub-genre (or outside of dance music in general) is why most edm sounds like derivative, paint-by-numbers, bullshit. If you are happy to be dripfed your musical aesthetic by other artists who also close their ears to centuries of musical history, then go for it. I don't see why you would encourage others to back themselves into such a cornerfluffy_little_something wrote:If the man is making deep house music, that's probably on purpose. I am not so sure it helps recommending him to listen to other genres. Sounds more like he is looking for ways to distinguish himself within the deep house realm.
it is up to each individual to decide whether imposing arbitrary restraints will work out well for them. my issue is with other people trying to impose them. my recommending people to widen their sphere of listening is for the cumulative effects of taking in all that musicality at a subconscious level, as opposed to searching out the possibility of fusing diametric styles (although try telling avicii that opening his mind to country music would be a bad idea)fluffy_little_something wrote:Well, but maybe it is like with evolution. And yes, I agree it is unfriendly not to reply to people in one's own thread
But biological evolution is a very specific mechanism, whereas for cultural or artistic forms, no such mechanisms actually exist. Furthermore biological evolution is constrained to tiny variances from the existing DNA of the parents, something which bery specifically limits the source of 'information' that goes fom one generation.fluffy_little_something wrote:Well, but maybe it is like with evolution. as evidenced by the over-saturation of the music scene with 'me too', derivative nonsensefluffy_little_something wrote:I guess it is only a certain percentage of people that are interested in making or listening to new stuff.
