I guess there's always YouTube, if you're up to the task of relentless self-promotion; seems to be working for musicians, like Rob Chapman, who are making a living off of "subscribers"

Simmons is so out of touch with reality though, and not sure that anyone really takes anything he says seriously. He's probably saying this to deflect attention from his last couple of tasteless and ill-timed rants.

Rock isn't dead. Maybe Simmons' KISS royalties have bottomed out, but there continue to be interesting people making interesting music in all sorts of permutations. As Alan Moore said in "Watchmen", "We do not do this because we are permitted; we do this because we are compelled."

But the record industry is in a death spiral. They they screwed themselves over a long time ago and then a perfect confluence of events and technological innovations made them very rich and then just hammered them down.

( this means artists signed to actual labels who also tour.)
Looking @ Amazon/rock/new and notable releases I can see how much the scene has lost it`s luster. Those artists who were real talents don`t have many more years on this earth...and most are dead or have retired from the public scene.\

Over the years, I think they've absolutely driven the Kiss brand into the ground (mr potatohead figures FFS), getting anyone to consider them cool is going to be tough.

But then Motorhead and The Misfits are still respected musically, considered 'real' whereas it seems Kiss have always been a cartoon band, peddling shallow rock-lite to whoever's listening.

Nah, never a fan.

It is still strong and it´s easy to prove and if you can't do that...you're not updated.The only difference is that we dont have so many big stadium bands left and not so many rockbands are selling millions of records either. But who cares about that? I've never been a KISS, Rolling Stones, U2 etc. fan. Most of the bands I have liked have never been megastars. I dont care if I'm the only one who like a rockband. If I like their music, that's all that counts. I have never stagnated with my musical taste either and complained "the music was so much better before syndrome".

Gene Simmons always seemed to have the idea that quality equals how much money you made from your band.
I cant remember another band that ascribed to this idea more.

In reality, many great musicians never needed face paint, stage bombastics and rumors of how many woman they had sex with.
Gene Simmons always relied on such things.

No rock isn't dead although it may smell funny.

The great thing about rock is, it will never die.

I updated my response, above, before seeing yours. The dead rock scene I speak of are not those "stadium acts"...although it`s true we will never see the likes of them again...and that is the rock scene as well. The general rock scene for me is mostly those who tour houses like the Philadelphia 'Tower Theater' or the New York City 'Beacon Theater'. Looking at those schedules reflects the state of the rock scene as it stands these days.

They have been since about their 4th album.

The only thing they ever seem to do now is play the nostalgia circuit and entertain the troops.

What really surprises me is how many albums they still sell - once in a while I'll hear something from one of their new albums and it's generally awful cliched rock.

As much as Gene Simmons is a first class douchebag, one thing he is really good at is selling shit.
