Don´t use cubase, but why would you need to record your audio like that...
Can´t u just bounce direct to disk?
Or are you talking about hardware instruments?

Edit: check that the recording channel is set to the driver that handels your current input device!
otherwise, if you record on the wrong input device, no sound will be recorded.

to save CPU

anyways, i've done this before and i know other people that have bounced their midi tracks to audio to save some cpu and avoid clicks.

if there's another aproach to do this, im up for it.

I'm just using cubase 5.1, but to render a midi track to audio, I just mute all the other tracks, go to master mixer and export audio.

beanyles: You can freeze the individual tracks (cubase renders a temp audio track of the choosen VSTi/midi track). You can not move the audio around, or copy & paste it etc after its froozen, if you want to edit it you need un-freeze it first.

If you want to freeze a VSTi track just click the freeze button in the VSTi window, and click it again if you want to un-freeze (and delete the audio data from the hdd).
