I really love the sound of the Malstrom. Its a unique synth for sure, and like you pointed out, very little CPU usage. Same with the NN-XT. Its individual zone settings are awesome and, again, little CPU. The Scream Distortion and RV7000 Reverbs are (to me) better than pretty much anything out there.

I will now be using more VSTi's for sure, but Reason modules will always have there place for me :)

I'll post more info as I dig deeper.

Still testing the beta...Impulse is great it is so easy to use drag drop, drag drop, drag drop...all this while the music is playing...

It is so odd to open up a new project in Live and find two midi and two audio tracks.

The ease with which you can combine working on the piano roll and audio clips is so smooth! 8) :o

It is like Ableton have somehow provided a workflow that is equal to that of Live 3 but now with midi as well. It is just so smooth! :o

More feedback to come... :)

Unfortunately....negative :x

I really wish that was there.
Shit. Another contender spunks it.

Thanks anyway drez.

piano roll niggle ...

(proviso - im only playing without reading anything)

... pencil tool only seems to draw in one-beat notes - you then have to switch tools to change note lengths (maybe theres a hotkey ??? ) ...

... having said that - velocity adjustment is a breeze and the velocity color-coding is dead useful (i KNOW live isnt the qst to do this but no other host i have has it and it just makes SO much sense)

the first time people have favorably compared the first of at least two beta releases to the prior version of said program and it's competition... there is no competition. For the first time I am now using several apps because I want to and not because my host of choice doesn't cut the mustard.

So, how does the midi editing compare to something like Logic or Cubase? Does it support linked/ghost clips? Clip groups? What about per-clip automation curves?

Post

per clip automation curves yes, for the other questions hopefully someone else can answer.

Uh Can't get any Vsti to play with midi files. I am missing something basic that I cannot find in the pdf manual :help:

On the channel, did you turn Monitor to "On"?

Do you have the correct Midi device set the "Midi From" drop down?

Do you see Midi Activie on the second drop down in the "Midi From" section?

Is your "Audio To" source set to "Master"?

is it possible to play Vsti`s in Live 4 via the computer keyboard like in Tobi`s minihost or Orion ?

thx

I think it sounds hopeful. Few niggles sure, but lets not forget this is a beta.

I have never used Live much, but i still have faith that it will be the best host for me. Well, on a level with EnergyXT anyway :D

Thanks drez! Monitor was not on.

Hey Dr008 does not work. Now that's a big drag!

Cheers,
Gordon

Have you checked the beta forum over at ableton? I think they have a running list of what is not working. If you can't get something to work, you should definitely report it so that it can get fixed :D

Had a quick play today.

CPU usage does seem higher (I get a few cracks and pops, and even tho the meter says 50%, the volume meters stop working and then CPU load goes up to 107%). But I do have an ancient PC.

Bounce to Audio is pretty easy, tho you need to practice a bit to get it down before a live performance.

I don't like that the the VSTi only has a close button on its window and stays "on top" of the Live window. Being able to switch would be better (unless I am missing a shortcut somewhere)

So far I'm impressed. Will load onto my higher performance notebook (when I get it later this week) for a better evaluation.
Want to change your additive synth into an addictive one? You just need 5000 Cs!
