if i select linear knobs, then close the plugin and open a new instance, the knob is set to "linear" in the plugin, but the knob actually acts like a circular one. at least in REAPER x64.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

I can't reproduce that.Burillo wrote:if i select linear knobs, then close the plugin and open a new instance, the knob is set to "linear" in the plugin, but the knob actually acts like a circular one. at least in REAPER x64.
What OS and version are you on? If OSX, did you create the folder (under your user folder) ~/Library/Application Support/Admiral Quality/SCAMP ? And if so, do you see the file SCAMP.ini in there? That's where the option preference is stored. (It's just a text file so you can also read its contents. You should see "KnobMode 3" for linear in there.)
In Windows the options are stored in your registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Admiral Quality\SCAMP\Options and you should see a key named KnobMode with a value of 3.

that's on Windows x64.
interestingly, if i load SCAMP and then go to knob mode selection, then it works (even if i press Cancel). i guess it has something to do with knob mode not being loaded unless you go and check what it is set as?

Thanks for the awesome animation!
Can you run regedit.exe and check to see if that key is there? And what version of Windows is that?
Still trying to reproduce this, will try to match what you are doing exactly... will get back to you shortly.

already did, it's there. tried deleting it, nothing changed. you might want to check if you have default knob mode is not set to "linear" in REAPER. that's Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.AdmiralQuality wrote:Can you run regedit.exe and check to see if that key is there? We're on the same OS version then. My default knob mode in Reaper is set to Circular. (SCAMP should only ever look at that if its own preference tells it to.)Burillo wrote:courtesy of LICEcapAdmiralQuality wrote:Thanks for the awesome animation!
From Cockos! Man I love that guy! Getting it! That's going to come in very handy!

Still trying to reproduce it... I had my Reaper plug-ins set to "Auto-float newly created FX windows", yours seems to be set to the default (off). Trying that now...

this also works the other way around. if i set REAPER's default to "linear" and set knobs to "circular", they will default to linear. so this is clearly the case of not overriding the default behavior.

i've installed REAPER portable into a folder (i.e. a self-contained fresh install) and this bug doesn't happen. this issue is clearly on my side, however for the life of me i can't think of anything that could possibly affect this...

I still can't reproduce this, even using Reaper's full FX window view exactly like you are. Weird!Burillo wrote:this also works the other way around. if i set REAPER's default to "linear" and set knobs to "circular", they will default to linear. so this is clearly the case of not overriding the default behavior.
This is Reaper 64 with SCAMP(x64).dll, right? And the latest/greatest Reaper?
Can anyone else reproduce this?
I'll try some more later on. (Rushing to get a Poly-Ana update out at the moment.) And even if I can't reproduce it, I'll take another look at that logic before releasing the next SCAMP update on Monday. (I don't see this as a show-stopper, so it shouldn't extend the Beta.)
Big favor to ask you. Can you download Poly-Ana and let me know if the same thing is happening? http://www.admiralquality.com/products/Poly-Ana
Thanks in advance. I'm going to get LICEcap (that guy comes up with stranger names than I do!) and show you it's not happening to me.

Weird! I've got Reaper installed in the non-portable format. (Ver 4.721.)Burillo wrote:i've installed REAPER portable into a folder (i.e. a self-contained fresh install) and this bug doesn't happen. this issue is clearly on my side, however for the life of me i can't think of anything that could possibly affect this...
I'll take a look at the code. (I won't bother showing you the animation of it working, now that you've seen it yourself.)
I assume it works fine in any other hosts you have as well? And the big thing... when you open Reaper for the first time, and load a new SCAMP, does it come up with the correct knob mode preference? If THAT doesn't work I'll be a lot more concerned about it.
Thanks again for the great testing! And thank you for your purchase and welcome aboard!

no, this actually doesn't happen either with PolyAna or PolyAna FX. i also tried SCAMP x86 version, but the problem exists there as well, so at least it's not a x64 issue.
i don't use other hosts so can't comment on that.

Good to know, thanks. (That will also provide a clue, I can look for any differences between the way Poly-Ana does it and SCAMP does it. But there's not supposed to be any.) And yeah, I didn't expect the 32 or 64 bit to make a difference, but had to check.Burillo wrote:no, this actually doesn't happen either with PolyAna or PolyAna FX. i also tried SCAMP x86 version, but the problem exists there as well, so at least it's not a x64 issue.
Thanks Burillo, really appreciate it!

that's exactly what happens. i load up REAPER, add a track, add a new SCAMP and this happens.AdmiralQuality wrote:And the big thing... when you open Reaper for the first time, and load a new SCAMP, does it come up with the correct knob mode preference? Oh dear, that's not good. Glad there's a quick work-around though. Can anyone else reproduce this, in any host?Burillo wrote:that's exactly what happens. i load up REAPER, add a track, add a new SCAMP and this happens.AdmiralQuality wrote:And the big thing... when you open Reaper for the first time, and load a new SCAMP, does it come up with the correct knob mode preference? The sound of that filter is why I started this company! I call it "airy", "hairy" and "scary". I tell the whole story in this Wusik Mag interview...no problemAdmiralQuality wrote:Thanks again for the great testing! i've done some more tests. i've cleared REAPER's AppData directory (backing everything up of course) and started with what amounts to a fresh install. i set my VST directory to the directory of SCAMP (i.e. not loading any other plugins). i loaded SCAMP - the knob mode was set to "linear", but the knobs behaved circular. going to settings set the knobs to linear mode. removing SCAMP and loading it again resulted in knobs behaving linearly. HOWEVER, i then closed and reopened REAPER, and knobs behaved circular again, until i went to the settings screen.
the same actually happens with portable REAPER install i tested earlier, too. tried running REAPER as admin, didn't change anything.
