XP Home
The Roland XP-30 with a cable that I can use instead of a midi cable to play the synth vsts in Fruity Loops.
It came with soundDiver software to I dunno...manage the presets with the keyboard,like libary software I guess.
I want to use the keyboard just mainly for the synths that I download and play them in FL.

Does any one know how to configure an XP-30 to do this?
I had it running like that before but then I think I was running windows 98.
I have it all hooked up properly but Im unsure of the midi drivers and I remember having the XP-30 showing in the midi menus like in the soundcard preferances and in sound diver it would show but this time I cant get it to do anything.

If anyone can help I would sure be thankful because I canty find the proper midi drivers or Im unsure of which ones to use so my computer will see the XP-30.

The computer is a Athlon 800MHZ
768RAM
With a basic SoundBlaster Live card and I lost the CD for the sound software to enable all the extras so Im not sure if its that.It does play all sounds properly its just not seeing my XP-30 as a midi input.
I had it running a couple of years ago like that but I cannot get it up and running.
If I could just get the soundcard to reconise the keyboard I could probrably get everything else working.

Thanks for any help with this and I checked the Roland site to see if there are any updates for the drivers but I find anything.

There are no drivers for your keyboard, period. The drivers are your MIDI interface, and you can label your inputs and outputs depending on the MIDI driver. But your computer actually recognizing you have a Roland XP-30, that won't happen. Sound Diver itself can recognize external devices though, but that's not 'drivers' finding it.

Ok...yes I know there are no drivers for the keyboard but the card would have it in the dropdown menu as a (I dunni again here exactly) alternate source to use as a input device or something and now its not there.
I looked over at the Roland site but I cant seem to find the help anywhere to hook this thing up.
I gues im going to try to update the midi drivers and see if that helps any.
Is there any forums on keyboards and midi to computer sites anywhere that anyone knows of?

I had it hooked up here before but its been so long I forget exactly how I did it.

I used one of the midi drivers on the CD but like I say its years old and the port in the back of my computer Im unsure of which port it is first and second im unsure of the driver I need to make the port active.

Ok thanks anyway Im gonna keep plugging away at it.I would hate to have to go out and buy a midi adapter or something when it will run thru this computer connection cable I bought way back when.

1. Is the MIDI cable connected between the XP-30 and the SPlive card? (that is the 5-pin connector on the one side of the cable fitting into the XP-30 and the 15-pin connector on the other side fitting into the SBlive card)
2. Is the MIDI drivers installed for the SBlive card? The MIDI drivers are needed for Windows to recognize the MIDI-in port of the SBlive card. (verify thru Start -> Settings -> Multimedia -> MIDI)

Its a serial port that th cable uses.
I bought it after I got this computer a few years back and it doesnt go into the sound card it goes into a serial port on back of the computer.
Its like the printer port but smaller,like you say about 8-10 pins.
I hooked it up in everyway possible and tried every setting on the back of the keyboard.

Heres some links I found and I did what these guys did but this computer is old so I dont know if those ports even work.
Im going to have a look in the computer manager and see if theres any problems there but the sounddiver software still says it cant see the keyboard.

Im getting somewhere now!!!!
I went into the directX diag and when I played the test for the card it did ok and then I had to reset the keyboard to factory default.....then when I did the test I got the DX test music thru the earphones of the XP-30.

Im getting there...lol

You definitely need a special Serial MIDI driver before you will be able to do anything. I found the correct driver at http://www.roland.it/download_drivers.htm.
Look for "Roland Serial MIDI Driver Ver 2.1 per Windows95/98 (multi-client version)"

Ok...I just playe a midi file from a site and it played fine thru my XP-30 so Im getting really close.

Thanks for that link I looked around on the roland usa website and nothing like this ink you gave me.

I have the version 3.2 drivers.

Again thanks for that link asseca.

Now I guess im off to get FLStudio to accept the inputs from the keyboard.

i have an XP30.. had it since 3years now.. get yourself a little midi interface and use that with it..

it works a treat

Well...
I have it playing midi files that I have downloaded on my computer and I can hear them thru the keyboard.
Thats the first part....
Now I have to figure out how to use the XP-30 to control the VSTs in FL Studio as far as just the keyboard aspects go...just for input.

Maybe tomm....lol.

Roland XP-30--Useing it to play VST synths Etc?
