I had an Itunes gift card once, you had to install stuff just to get anything, so I'll pass on this.

Seriously, this made me laugh: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/29157217
making it sound like a virus most people will want to get rid of.

That's the problem you end up in when you give away something for free.GaryG wrote:making it sound like a virus most people will want to get rid of.
There will always be somebody who find this very annoying, and have to be very vocal about that.
I'm a little sad that U2 give away their stuff so cheaply.
I dunno how I would have felt if it had been Depeche Mode who had done it.

It's spam ... I don't really care how good the album is or isn't, I just don't like U2 and don't want them stuffed in my iTunes account.
So yes, it is a virus that I want get rid of.
Pretty poor form from Apple and U2 IMO.

But you don't have to listen to it in iTunes?
I mean, I can log onto my old iTunes account, download the album, and then put it on my android phone right?

How does this album compare to Eazy-E, or Skrillex?

My ex told me she really liked it, had never been a U2 fan and would check out their other recordings. It's in my
account too, but haven't listened yet.

So I logged into my old iTunes account that I haven't used for years, downloaded the album, and promptly logged out again
Then I loaded it up in Winamp instead, plays fine, no DRM.
There is also a big "CD-booklet" (29 pages) included, which is a nice bonus too.
I'm not the biggest U2 fan, I like their first albums, in particular October, but drifted away from them over the years.
This is a nice enough collection of tracks, for mellower listening

I liked Actung Baby , a whole lot as an album , its the only U2 album I own or purchased , I have a Rattle and hum HD DVD that I got free and didn't care for them much and I do like some singles from there older stuff . Some of there songs after that album (Actung Baby) were not bad either . I think its cool they are giving it away free , I have iTunes but I use amazon and Google play for music , I downloaded the free iTunes album but just previewed quickly . I'm not into it . If I liked it I'd import it to my Google music from iTunes . Thumbs up to U2 .... Maybe I'll give you another listen ? Who knows ?

Fair point. I hadn't really thought of it as spam but I've got a bunch of older U2 albums so didn't think of it as an intrusion.ZenPunkHippy wrote:It's spam ... I don't really care how good the album is or isn't, I just don't like U2 and don't want them stuffed in my iTunes account.

They have gone about it a funny way – it could have just been made free to purchase temporarily on the iTMS, much like earlier music and app promotions, rather than stuffed into accounts.

Dont be so sad, they got a fuckin great wad from Apple to compensate them, and its not like they need the money

Im more than happy to have free music from bands i like. I cant see the problem
(i dont agree with shoving it into ppls accounts, you should decide for yourself if you want it or not)
