so Cake's Plasma 2003 requires 8.1 DirectX. It installs it from the CD, then on reboot it notices that 8.1 DirectX isn't installed.
I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded DirectX 9.0 -- just in the hope (and the fact that 8.1 wasn't listed) Everything else Cake and DirectX seems to work now with 9.0.
But to no one's surprise Plasama 2003 still wants to see DirectX 8.1 and starts up that round and round install circle.
any ideas?
I have an e-mail into Cake.
Where do I go to actually see what Direct X is installed?
Plasma reinstall requires 8.1 DirectX 8.1

I'd think Cakewalk would have a patch like the one for pre-Sonar 3 versions that fakes it into thinking you're using 8.1.
As to what version,go Start/run/dxdiag

Get the direct x utility from the Cakewalk website.
It's in the registered user area.

thanks,
found the dirsctX utility
i'll get to it this evening at home
once again kvr proves its worth as a resource. in head to head competition with cakewalk support and cakewalk forums, I get a workable answer here first.
