I had a crash in Logic the day of Serum's release. I emailed Steve directly and he answered back w/in 3 minutes. You will not find better customer-service anywhere.BBFG# wrote:Don't confuse marketing sales blast with attentiveness.

They have a support forum and in addition to that are active here? I see the opposite of what you seeBBFG# wrote:Indeed.Gamma-UT wrote:BBFG# wrote:Then maybe they should direct all this there and not venture out where they have no such support.
I'd very much love to see a comparison of the workflows between the two, how quicker (or slower) is it to achieve one thing or another, can anyone comment on that?

In synth vs. synth:
It's too soon to tell and therefore it goes to the one with a longer and consistent history.
Company vs. company:
It goes to the one not trying to slam the other and it may find that it often causes itself to be questioned for that.
A synth I would have well considered is now left in a 'wait and see' basket is all.
And as these threads increase, so does the time in considering it's claims.

Serum has great GUI and "updated" workflow
Zebra's got more modules and great flexibility.
Serum has this OSC function wave warp. (unfortunately some functions there sound kinda bad atm even in 4x oversampling mode)
Zebra has 2 spectral effect (OSCFX) slots per osc + self hardsync + PWM at the same time.
They also have quite different (subjective) sound quality.
I prefer Zebra but Serum ain't bad at all.
IMO, Zebra has better sounding filters.
Serum OTOH seems to have more quality effects.
Although I'm enjoying the Serum demo, there's no doubt in my mind that Zebra can't be compared and it's a clear winner for me.
Would love to see an updated wave/wavetable editor in Zebra asap!
Zebra3... where are you??!

I have similar opinion. These two synths can't be really compared as both try to achieve different things. Having said that, the waveforme editor in Serum is amazing.

I can see the appeal in Serum. I own Zebra2 and really enjoy using it for quick sound design, but if i felt like resampling some of my other synthesizers, could do this very easily with serum. I'm not too concerned about the filter quality since i could use something like Cytomics The Drop right after it.

I'm not a Zebra fan, don't like the sound and the interface, so for me it's without doubt Serum.
But, Zebra is not a wavetable synth and Serum is not a semi-modular synth. You can compare Serum with Massive or Z3ta or you can compare Zebra with Synthmaster or Diversion.

You know that talking about a plugin isn't the sole criteria for purchase?BBFG# wrote:For developer attentiveness, Zebra, hands down.
(Maybe the other should consider getting their own sub-forum here?)
Zebra is awesome, Zebra can do LOADS of stuff.
Serum sounds stunning, in a way that Zebra can't really do.
Rejoice the fact that we live in an era of almost infinite choice and possibility.
Wait, why has't Waldorf been mentioned yet?

Actually Zebra does allow you to create wave tables within it. Also Serum would be classified as a semi-modular with it's routing abilities.4damind wrote:I'm not a Zebra fan, don't like the sound and the interface, so for me it's without doubt Serum.

I am exploring Serum... cool synth...
I have 1 Osc active and made 4 waveforms... modulating between them they always jump from one to the next. How would I blend between them? I assume that is possible.

What is ignored by the developer can say as much as what they don't.BBFG# wrote: It's too soon to tell and therefore it goes to the one with a longer and consistent history.

Too soon to make a decision about the synth or the developer at this point.
What has and hasn't been addressed is enough to watch without jumping on is all.
Would rather wait a few months and see what you all are saying then.
