@Melda: is moving the Character control during sound production supposed to be very glitchy when using the Polymorph filters? It doesn't seem to be a CPU issue.

Yes. That's why there is no Character range. Character basically reconfigures the whole filter. Polymorph filters are basically almost infinite combinations of other filters.

Right; so the Character is essentially a configuration selector (could it not mute between selections?)

Without more information, this section involves a lot of experimentation and guesswork. With some Character settings, raising Res is required for the choice to be effective. Most of the other filter behaviors are pretty straightforward, but IMO these could use more detailed descriptions in the docs.

Yes! And yes, this needs experimentation ;). I'm afraid no docs will help you with that. But it's all about sound - you don't know how specific shape would sound (especially if it is frequency dependent, and with different sources...), so what's the problem with just trying it?? ;)

Time. It's more efficient to know what a tool does before you use it, rather than spending time figuring out what the tool does first. There seems to be about 200 configurations of the Polymorph circuit, times the 4 global variations, which are fairly close to one another.

I think this might be the first time historically that a dev has ever told me to figure out some undocumented aspect of their construct myself. :hihi:

:D yeah, but even I don't know them! It's randomized! ;)

LOL! Jack-in-the-box filter configurations! Well, as long as they're recalled with a saved patch... This does make them less useful when you know what you're looking for.

Based on the name, I originally thought they might have been variations of type-morphing filters, like the SEM (LP -> BP -> HP). Time to visit the FR thread? ;)

They are saved ;). They are directly related to the "character". As long as it's not changed...
And it's more complex. It's when you don't know what you want. For me it's the usual case :D.

(copied and pasted from a thread I started when I didn't see this one)

First off, I wanted to say BRAVO! I had little expectations of this instrument thanks to the hush-hush nature (thanks Melda!) but it does deserve some hype, so I'm a hype'n. I don't even know how to quite describe it. Kind of a hybrid additive/VA but that really doesn't do it justice. With what you can do with waveshaping to the basic analog style waveforms it almost starts feeling like a wavetable kind of synth, though it's not quite that. The sound quality is very good and it seems light on the CPU for what it's offering.

The OSCs sound very nice, clear and lively or crazy or as basic as you want and of course it does additive OSCS.

The filter selection is mind boggling. Is there another synth with this many filter types? The distortion on the filters is probably the best I've heard in a plug in bar none. There are two filters. I'm not sure if you can run them in parallel as well as the default which is series.

The LFO and modulation system is very extensive, but it's going to take some more time and probably a crack of the manual to get it all. It's very extensive and flexible. The downside is just trying to do a basic aftertouch assign is a bit byzantine, but I guess that's the price for the flexibility.

Envelopes are extensive and very good.

The UI is overall pretty good if you choose the futuristic skin, other skins seem ugly as hell. It's all scaleable. I wish it had more drag and drop style of mod assignments. A lot of things don't seem intuitive at all, but this is the type of synth you sit down and read the manual to learn.

The effects sound great, but that's another area that I'm going to have to hit the manual to grok. I had a hard time figuring out how to add them in an empty preset.

Anyway, just a mini-review of my first impression with an hour with this synth. I must admit the name is dumb, but this is a must buy for sure.

Mmmm morphing filters! If you implemented a E-MU style z-plane filter morphing set up many people would be very, very happy. (not that I'm not happy now)
