Tron Legacy is forgettable, with perhaps the exception of the club scene. I really like Daft Punk, in fact, far more than I like Vangelis, but there was a lot more ground to make up in Tron and I don't think that Daft Punk was able to pull it off.Compyfox wrote:Actually... did anyone of you thought that Daft Punk would create a fitting soundtrack (score) for "Tron Legacy"?
Or BT for the movie "Stealth"?
Bladerunner would be forgettable without the soundtrack.

While Tron Legacy might not be the best movie on the planet, I still think that the soundtrack did work for it. Especially with hints at the old score.ghettosynth wrote:Tron Legacy is forgettable, with perhaps the exception of the club scene. Then again, I also liked the "Discovery" album movie port "Interstellar 5555", even seen it at a theater (sadly with a lot of stupid people, constantly babbling and drinking). Also "forgettable", but definitely an interesting movie/music concept.

You can't have a soundtrack without Ozzy Osbourne! He bit the head off of bats!

I don't disagree, in fact, it's kind of in the same boat for me as Bladerunner, except that, the movie is worse, and the soundtrack doesn't lift it as much.Compyfox wrote:While Tron Legacy might not be the best movie on the planet, I still think that the soundtrack did work for it. Again, I am really into a lot of Daft Punk's stuff, especially Thomas Bangalter's stuff on Roule. I still mix stuff from Tracks on Da Rocks, although, I'm not playing out anymore so it's not like it really counts.
Yeah, that's not a movie. The Discovery album was the last album of theirs that I purchased on vinyl and it was the last time that I bought something of theirs without listening first. I'm not sure that I ever played anything from it. I regularly played stuff from homework, but, in general I never played the cuts that most people like. I like Music Sounds Better with You (not on homework) a lot, but I always played DJ Sneak's remix which is really pared down and doesn't include the big moments that most people like. Then again, I also liked the "Discovery" album movie port "Interstellar 5555", even seen it at a theater (sadly with a lot of stupid people, constantly babbling and drinking). Here ya go, a little in your face Bangalter.

I have blade runner on the DVR and when I watched it last night, I was thinking how this is so much, so SO much, this is about speaking to my manhood with the action of the sound in the context of the visuals.

It makes me wonder how much better mediocre sci-fi might be with the right music?

The soundtrack is fantastic, the story was written by one of the SF greats and the movie was directed by Ridley Scott.
Also the visuals were top notch...

hmmm...i know this thread is old...but i kinda cant let this slip.ghettosynth wrote:That's my assertion anyway. I just watched it again and, overall, I think that the movie is somewhat mediocre. ghettosynths statement up there is nonsense. the notion that the quality of art is purely subjective is patently incorrect. sure...you may not like a work of art...but your appreciation for it has zero bearing on if its good or not.
blade runner is arguably the greatest science fiction film of all time, finely crafted by some of the best artists the film industry has ever seen...based on a book by one of science fictions all time best authors.
to say its "somewhat mediocre" is just plain wrong. this isnt a matter of taste...its a matter of craftsmanship and overall artistic quality. i mean ok, you dont like it...theres nothing wrong with that at all... you just dont like it...but to say its mediocre is like saying the pieta is mediocre, or starry night is mediocre, or mozarts requiem is mediocre. its just an incorrect statement.
blade runner is objectively one of the best films ever made, it is the hallmark of a genre, it will still be watched, discussed, and taught in film schools long after you and i are dead and forgotten. it is the citizen kane of science fiction, a monumental work of art that is anything but "mediocre".

I agree, there are objective references to rate that aspect. Though they can differ depending on the region (country, tribe, etc...).chaosWyrM wrote:its a matter of craftsmanship
Don't agree. Since nobody can agree on what art exactly entails, adding the word quality to it doesn't mean it's a more objective concept.chaosWyrM wrote:...and overall artistic quality.

In your opinion.chaosWyrM wrote:is like saying the pieta is mediocre, or starry night is mediocre, or mozarts requiem is mediocre. its just an incorrect statement.
Not everybody should rate a piece of music based on it's craftmanship, like you do.
Example: Maybe Beyonce's songs are well constructed and sung "correctly" with an "acceptable" singing voice...
But I don't think that offsets my personal opinion that she makes CRAP!!

ugh. ill try again.....
im not rating it solely on craftsmanship...i dont even know where you got the idea i was.
and your example of beyonces dreck isnt applicable. technical accuracy ≠ craftsmanship, there is an element of artistic merit inherent in the word.
also im not sure what you are disagreeing with...are you saying that its NOT like "saying the pieta is mediocre, or starry night is mediocre, or mozarts requiem is mediocre."?
or are you suggesting that those 3 works of art...3 of humanitys greatest artistic achievements...can not be said to be objectively good?
good and bad art is not really subjective. one may like bad art...and dislike good art...but the qualities that make it good or bad are what they are.
i dont like all art that is considered good...im sure no one does....im also sure i like some bad art. i find it prudent however, if i dislike a work of art that is considered to be good (not to be confused with popular), to deffer to people who know more about it than i do.
example: i do not like jazz. in fact i f'ing HATE jazz. if i hear so what by miles davis...i fly into an immediate rage and want to kill everyone in the room and then slit my own throat.
so what by miles davis is considered by people who do like jazz as one of the best jazz tracks of all time.
i would be an absolute idiot to claim it was mediocre...simply because i dont get it...simply because i think its a boring, annoying rambling mess that doesnt say anything or have any purpose to exist at all.
so...yeah...i want to stab that song right in its stupid face i hate it so much....but still i wont say its a bad piece of art....because i would be wrong.
it is in fact a great piece of art...one of the best examples of one of the greatest music genres in the history of mankind.
it is objectively good...i just dont like it.
