I was just thinking that it is the closest thing on the Reason platform so far?
Thor has a Phase modulation module and a FM Pair which is pretty good too but nothing quite like the Casio CZ that is from Propellerhead or even from a third party afaik.

Well after listening to the audio demos I'm way more interested than before.

Here is a good demo of the Z-5000 in action to give you something to compare the plugin to.

site is back up now. i'd love to say it was because of the sheer demand for my plugin it went down, but actually it was being patched for a certain mega bug "shellshock" which you may have heard about

Is it able to emulate the VZ10M/8M by any chance? There's great preset called SeeGod.

No, they are different synths and use a different (though related) synthesis method - they are closer to FM synthesisers in complexity and sound, whereas the CZ range are simpler and don't get nearly as "FM-ey".

However, listing to that patch, you could probably approximate it with VCZ pretty well, especially as you can layer and stack multiple instances in your DAW.

Thanks. I will definitely buy it although I've overspent this month so it will probably be next month.
I really like the New Rage patch as well it has a realy punchy attack to it.

You'll definitely have to layer, since that sound is a combi (what Casio calls Operation Memory), not a program.

Yes, I have a VZ (Casio VZ-10M) and also a CZ-1000.

I've had the VZ10M for about 18 months but the screen was really dim so I had to change that. I also picked up a mint VZ8M recently but I haven't got to round patching it in to my rig yet. I really bought to go with my Casio MG510 I bought not long ago.

AFAIR the VZ-8M was built especially to be coupled with the MIDI Guitar, but guitarists didn't pick the idea back then. It's funny seeing someone catching that 30 years later :)

:) Well I guess that's showing my age but I did actually have the same combo around 20 years ago but sold them for some reason. I guess I was feeling nostalgic and couldn't resist buying them again and the prices were very reasonable. That MIDI guitar is surprisingly good as both a midi controller and a guitar, even by today's standards. It even has a built-in tuner. I think they were made by Ibanez.

Is there a... sane way to handle .syx banks for the non-VST2 versions? Some way of batch importing the individual patches it produces or something? If not, is that on the horizon? Having to load each preset from a bank individually through the OS load menu is rather cumbersome.

Post

I'm aware that is cumbersome - i will think of how i can improve it in the future. If i want to import SYSEX i do it with VST2 version and export 64 x presets from there.

if it helps... here are the casio presets converted to .vstpreset/.aupreset/.fxp/.fxb/.tfx

on mac you just run the installer (doesn't yet include .tfx)...

http://olilarkin.co.uk/downloads/Virtua ... taller.pkg

on windows you currently have to place the presets in the .vstpreset folders etc manually...

http://olilarkin.co.uk/downloads/Virtua ... resets.zip

going to make an installer for the windows version too

I've been doing this. It is a bit laborious but it gets the job done. One thing I've noticed though - when I export the bank as vst3 presets the LCD on the synth reports 'Save Failed' even though the bank has been successfully exported.
Great little synth this! I'm currently working on an 80s inspired project so this couldn't have been released at a better time for me!

Oh thanks a ton, this is great. The piano presets are giving me flashbacks to the little 4-preset Casio I was given for Christmas when I was 9 or so. Good times.

One (maybe) last question -- is the bass in the Madtheory demo a single preset built-in or a layering? That's a seriously awesome sound :D
