No, you won't need to re-auth if you restore your user account to the reformatted system.
Kaboom75 wrote:I will only upgrade the motherboard every four years unless I happen to install a faulty one and have to replace it so doesn't bother me if the activation is locked to the motherboard.
Yes you will need to re-auth if you change your motherboard / computer.
Kaboom75 wrote:I once bought a game called Bioshock it was limited to five activations. I had a faulty hard drive and kept reinstalling windows and a few games then running into problems again. I finally realised it was a bad old drive so bought a new one. A week later I thought I might as well get a new motherboard and CPU as the game ran bad. After that I couldn't activate Bioshock I was locked out for good.
2kgames had to bring out a revoke tool because so many were recommending on all the forums downloading the pirate version as it didn't lock you out or give you worry that it could happen. Later they patched it out completely because it was still scaring people off buying it.
I can easily issue a few more auths manually in extreme cases like this. The new system is not just 5 auths, the number of auths is stored on the server and easy to update. Downloaded a cracked version is playing with fire since there are all sorts of delayed checks that will make the software not function correctly, so please just email me if there are any issues, it is easy for me to sort them out.

At some stage after I'm reinstalling windows on a PCI-e SSD. I bet by the time the SSD goes in Windows 10 wont be far off.

I've already bought it and plan to keep it.
Have I nothing to worry about?
No, there will be no issues with this, as long as your restore your user account from a backup.

I love how the UI has turned out, and the sound is stellar. Fantastic work. Best part is, I get this bad boy in my hands at the end of this coming week.

As an aside, nice desk you have there. Comfortingly familiar. :)

Andy:

As a followup - is there a way to deauthorize a license from a computer for situations when you know you are installing new hardware etc. and thus gain one authorization back?

---

If this was possible, I think I'd be mostly ok with the C/R scheme you laid out, as at least I would be in control of any authorization needs that were not due to freak accidents like getting your laptop stolen.

I do understand the need to protect bulk copying. What I suspect, and what has been discussed a lot, is that possibly the vast majority of people who'd copy, say, their schools plugin serials for themselves would not buy the plugin anyway, were they not able to copy it for free.

But enough of that. Thanks for answering and good luck with the 1.0 launch. :tu:

In the future I would like to support de-authorizing, but it really isn't easy to do unless I use a dongle since I am not in control of the end users computer, so they could easily restore their entire system and be back running an authorised copy. I think it is easier just to issue another authorisation to cover the lost one, which is still lots better than how it is now where there is absolutely no control over any upper limit of auths anyway.

I am fine that blocking casual abuse won't lead to a sale, it is just that I don't want paying customers to have their licenses easily stolen from them and then possibly leaked on the internet!

The other abuse that will be blocked by this new system is those people that like to buy a license and then sell it straight away again, and then another person buys it and sells it and so on. There are lots of people that do this, and I have seen a single chain of license transfers 5 people long, I am guessing these people are all friends or do this swapping via some organised web page. With this new system the license can be sold, but the authorisation count won't change, which will discourage this sort of thing.

Sorry Andy but i need a clarification:
I can authorize TWO computers (one desktop and one laptop?) after single license purchase.
Then, If i have to change the Hard Drive on one or both the computers....what do i have to do?

Thaks You!!!

It would be more sensible to just stick with Windows 8. 9 isn't going to offer any benefit for music, so why are you upgrading? You don't need to buy every version of Windows, that's just crazy. Although Microsoft would love it if everyone bought every version, obviously their marketing is working on you!

Just get your system set up so that everything is running nice, then leave it alone. Then at some point you may even have time to make some music.

Windows 9 is adding Dx12 graphics some DX11 graphics cards can already run DX12 after Microsoft adds it so I'm expecting games companies to support it faster than they supported dx 10 and 11. I will stick with 8 if they add it to 8 I hate reinstalling Spectrasonics. I'm a gamer so I will upgrade an OS if it brings gaming improvements. Microsoft has gamers hostage with that tactic.

Thanks for your reply Andy. I've no problem at all with your protection not worried now :)

The demo looks perfect but feels like it was made for an engineer the new labels fixed that but I was already getting to know the symbols once I really tried to learn it . The new version looks like it was made for synthesizer users with the new labels really like the new GUI to see the bands and arp thing . People already used to u-he DIVA and Novation Monark will easily take to it. I can't wait to try the new emulations and the arp.

It smokes Soundtoys Filterfreak I feel bad about saying that because I'm loyal to them but fact is fact.
Thanks Andy

Upgrading to Windows 8(.1) makes sense because it is faster and more memory efficient than Windows 7. We will see if W9 will bring anything worthy of upgrading.

I've got nothing against C/R type protections, but I am hesitant to it if the developer and publisher seem, well, IDK how to say it but synonymous with undependable.

What hardware are the SMP, JPR from?

Post

Since the 1.0 and current internal beta of Andy are a bit different than the 0.9.18 I am a little guessing, but here goes:

smp = moog prodigy.
jpr = cross between roland juno6 and jupiter6?

Post

Ah thanks so he's using the Dave Gamble name sneekery :)
So is the SMP same or different algo to the Prodigy transistor ladder filter that's listed on the The Drop web page ?

Post

So I tried setting Drop as a compressor and boy, does this thing bite! Very interesting character.
Interestingly when making it work as gate it is much more tame, probably it's more of expander that way.
Anyway, I still can't get my head around all the settings -- what's the difference between "gate" and "trig" modes?
Very clever unit the Drop is!

DrGonzo wrote:Question. I liked the part when you where just playing an unfiltered wave from Cypher - and added TD as a filter with envelope. How does that work in practice? The envelope is in TD Attack, Hold and Release - with the hold down to zero, would the release function as a traditional decay knob? What I am after here is of course snappy filter envelopes.
