ableton live 4.0 beta is up

is it possible to play Vsti`s in Live 4 via the computer keyboard like in Tobi`s minihost or Orion ?

Sarcazm have you tried the doubledesktop monitor app, I haven't yet with live but it might be cool to set it up so that with a click you can have your vstis on the screen and with another click Live.

A post on the beta support forum from ableton indicates it does not support MIDI generating VSTi.

I'm afraid so far comments about mfx are right(if you have to access the mfx somewhere else in the progs tracks I can't see it) ...I have beta of Ableton 4...I actually emailed Ableton about 3 weeks ago and asked if Mfx and or midi output of plugs would be supported...unfortunately no response(I know they would be very busy)If it hasn't been implemented then imho it's a bit of an oversight given how many people use these tools....very dissaponting ...the 1st thing I did was use ERA(vsti version)...it gets a sync....route tracks midi output to input of vsti track(which is what I thought this was for?)and nothing received...ERA starts ok but no triggering of target vsti...you can also only place one instance of a vsti(multiple FX ok and has always been the case)in each track so no joy there hoping it would be like Tracktion works with placing vstis in series...of course I could be doing something wrong,it is a beta and of course it is software,so no reason why they can't implement these features/support at some point..here's hoping anyway ...then Ableton would pretty much do it all(well for me anyway)

Hi Creepjoint....I'll have another dig and see if I can get any results and post any info if I do....I will definately post these issues under a bug report(and email them re plans to add this if it isn't)in the assumption that it did support midi out data of plugs...real bummer with ERA,but at least EST works ok...with ERA it would be a mind blowing Live\studio combo!Anyway I'm pretty confident they will sort it.

Sorry, but MIDI out from plug-ins is not supported in Live 4.
Syncing of VST plug-ins should work and normaly does.

Its bloody clever, easy to use and enables endless inspiration from a handful of loops. I can use other hosts i have to make loops(FLStudio, Orion, Renoise) and probably use EnergyXT within it.

Hi Creepjoint and other users.....just had a good fiddle again with ERA....no joy I'm afraid....interesting thing is the vsti is receiving midi info ok:

Midi track 1 with ERA

Midi track 2 with Vsti(Imposcar)

Midi track 1 receives info from Remote 25(and auto sync from host)for direct control of ERA etc.

Midi track 2 has midi track 1s midi out routed to its midi in....

I can play Vsti ok from R25...it receives note ons etc and I can send it all CCs,ERA CCs ok and syncs up ok....however no triggers,no program changes etc received from ERA to Vsti?

I assume what comes out of ERA Vsti is midi CCs(possibly something with ERA?but I don't think so)so weird Vsti dosen't fire?....Is Midi data from ERA going some where else or just not recognised?Seems Vsti is only receiving direct hardware CCs and Abletons?Mmmm?

Anybody else had success?

Anyway...Ableton 4 is incredible...it's all so seamless....a real beast



Ah well!...at a later date I'm sure.
