While I'm sure the Softube amps are a MAJOR improvement over the Line 6 ones (because they completely sucked), it's basically just correcting a screw-up. And it highlights what a major screw-up/almost scam the Line 6 devices were in the first place. The half-ass implementation of them was putrid. If you have Amp Farm, or some other Line 6 software, I think, you can play patches from them, WITH EFFECTS, in Reason, but you can't actually tweak effect parameters in Reason!KarmaShaman wrote:I wish people would stop using 'two new amps' as an R8 enticement. They are replacements for native devices that are being discontinued, so their value is negligible. The truth is that this Line6 issue is going to create a lot of work for many people, not just the guitarists, as ReFill owners need to rebuild patches that they have previously purchased.
WTF?!?!?
There was ONE worthwhile thing about the Line 6 stuff, and it's untweakable in Reason!
And the fact that the Softube amps are arguably the centerpieces of a paid update is completely understandable from a business standpoint, but a bit nauseating from a human decency one.
I hope somebody checked the back of them for expiration dates.
I don't know how anybody can still trust these guys.

Do you work for Propellerhead? I can't figure out your angle. I don't get the hint you make a lot of music so you don't have a career based reason to fight so hard for Propellerhead, so I just can't figure out your angle on why you persist to blindly follow them so much.

The new Softube guitar amp emulates a "Tube Amp".....
The overdrive on it sounds like wasps fighting in a tin can.
Sorry, it's true. Play it at low level and it sounds like a hornet in a coke can.

A guy I know just spoke to me as he's looking at getting into the world of DAW for his guitar playing. Despite outlining the 'cons' with Reason, he likes the idea of having someone who he can ask questions (ie me). He claims that he downloaded the trial and there are no amps. I figure as they are in the store as RE's (what a deception that is.. $69 haha. talk about big-noting these products) he would need to d/l them, but he's claiming that he can't do so. I have tried to walk him through the process (I'm not there at the computer unfortunately) and it sounds like it's not an option.
The Softube amps are a central theme of the promotion, so why the hell aren't they available for trial?
Who is this version marketed to? It's not working out for the existing user base. The new videos are clearly aimed at beginners. Yet the flagship devices that they are advertising are not available. What am I missing here?

Can someone with amp sim experience please explain why the Kuassa guitar amps are almost half the price of the Softube amp ? A quick search on Google shows that Kuassa sims (VSTs) are rated as often, if not MORE often, in 'top 10' lists. Are Propellerhead simply assigning an inflated value to make the proposition of R8 look better?
Seriously, what's going on with this company? Seems to be one poor decision after another.

I'd rather spend my time in audio forums talking about the music programs and instruments I enjoy using, not the ones I despise.

The Kuassa REs, like the Kuassa VSTs, are excellent. I might consider buying the Softube Amp if it were closer in price to the Kuassa REs. Otherwise, no compelling reason to do so.KarmaShaman wrote:Can someone with amp sim experience please explain why the Kuassa guitar amps are almost half the price of the Softube amp ? The Softube VST amp sims (Vintage Amp Room, Metal Amp Room and Bass Amp Room) are also priced relatively high compared to the other well-respected amp sims out there (Scuffham, Kuassa, Revalver 4, Guitar Rig, etc.), so I think it is a Softube thing, rather than a Reason thing. Still, doesn't make it easy to buy them.

Are you speaking from experience with other VST brands ? I have the Kuassa RE and while it's a damn sight better than the Line6, I have no other frame of reference (apart from real amps - of which I feel neither sim can compete with).bharris22 wrote: The Kuassa REs, like the Kuassa VSTs, are excellent. I fail to see the relevance to your post. After a quick video review of the vintage set, it seems these products are incomparable to (what appears to be) the very basic models supplied with R8.Tronam wrote: Here are Softube prices:

The point is, all Softube products are expensive. Even their simple, one knob saturation plugin is $30.KarmaShaman wrote:I fail to see the relevance to your post. The amp RE's are Propellerhead products. Take a moment to look at the store. They are not listed under Softube products, they do not exist in the Softube catalogue outside of Reason, and they only exist as a stock device in one DAW.Tronam wrote: The point is, all Softube products are expensive. So really, it's a $69 naming right.
