I have to embed metadata in to your aif and mp3 tracks with name, PRO in the “artist” section, and put the genre name in the genre section.
They say I can use Itunes but that’s all they say and I’ve never done it.
Can anybody help get me going here? Doesn’t have to be iTunes I supposed.Just what they mentioned.

Tagscanner is free and rather excellent :tu:

Installing an intrusive programme like iTunes just to tag audio/mp3 files, I wouldn't recommend.

Hey Numanoid,
This actually looks like exactly what I'm looking for. Just at first glance seems to do everything I need to do and then some and free at that. I will download it and hopefully tagging my files it will be pretty easy to figure out.
Much appreciate the response Numanoid! :tu: :tu:

No problemo

I have been using tagscanner for a long time, and very happy with :)

You don't even have to install it, you can download the portable version, extract the zip and run it straight away:

ok, downloading the portable too. Just one question, whee do I go to import the .aif and mp3 files so I can to the metadata on them? I'm sure I'll eventually figure it out but since you're obviously very familiar with it, that would give me a jump start. I tried just dragging it into the big window but that didn't work.

Click the browse button to import whole folders (and subfolders) or just drag and drop your mp3 / aif files onto Tagscanner.

edit:
Sorry, missed your last sentence above. d'n'd works fine here (at least with mp3, didn't try with aif yet)

At the bottom of the GUI, there is a button called "Browse" click on that and then navigate to the folder where you have stored the files you want to tag.

The files inside the folder should then show up in the main window of tagscanner.

The fastest way to tag untagged files is to do so via online databases.

To do that I usually select all the files, go to "Tag Processor" (in the middle of the top menu), select the online service to use, and click search. If the the database returns the right match, I click save.

I like to use the service "Discogs" because that also provides cover artwork, but you need to type in the name of what you are searching for and will get hits back in many formats. FreeDB and Tracktype is easier, but dont provide artwork.

There are also info videos on YouTube to look at for guidance, like this one:

I was able to import the mp3 fine just not the .aif file so apparently it doesn't do .aif
Going back to the website I notice no mention of .aiff but at least for now I can do the mp3s until I get something that does both working for me. I'll check out your other suggestions and again, I appreciate you going out of your way trying to help me out here.

I'm not sure if you can add metadata to aiff files. It can't be added to Wav files to my knowledge.

This is being requested by a music library wanted the info imbedded on bothmp3 and .aiff files apparently it can be done.I'm sure there is a simple way. I just need to figure out what and how to do it without having to jump through too many hoops.

I just did a google search, and this came up top, it's from 2011 though, so things might have changed since then?:

I'm not using aiff files so I have no practical experience with metadata on such files.

I just tested this in Audacity and was able to convert a wav file to aiff and embed metadata. It also loaded into Kid3, I was able to edit the tags in Kid3 and resave it as an aiff - Kid3 and Audacity both handle most formats.

edit. What it is doing though is converting the .aif to .wav.Don't want it to do that.
