Gene Simmon's heart-rending rendition of "When You Wish Upon a Star" from his KISS "solo" album (released when all 4 of them released syncronized solo albums at the same time
).
.....brings a tear to the eye every time I hear it.

Yes, an incredible vocalist!!Hassan Ali Khan wrote:Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. You must hear the live recordings from Pakistan though, he tended to phone it in when he recorded anywhere else more often then not, but two of the sessions he did for Peter Gabriel came out very nicely ("Shabazz" and the Ghazhals also, I think it is just self titled as NFAK and party). Even then though he was incredible. The finest singer I've ever heard.
First time I heard him was on the Gabriel song "Passion" from the album of the same name....the part where his voice just keeps going up and up, higher and higher...is just amazing and breathtaking.

No, not having that. Sure Nelson did it first, but Elvis - as he did with most songs - made it his own.Sleek Month wrote:Um...two words: Willie Nelson.WHAT A f**king AMAZING SONG.! yes of COURSE i love the Elvis version, but, you'll probably shoot me for this, I really enjoyed Fantasia Barrino's rendition in American Idol.
He actually sounds like he means it.
(And let's not fall into the trap of Elvis being merely the first pop idol. His personal Muse - his voice - is both natural and magnificent, surely that's a given?)
Anyway, his biogs will tell you of his utter despair at the break up with Priscilla, they will also tell you of him breaking down in the studio whilst recording Always on My Mind. He DID mean it, and it IS, certainly in my eyes - Elvis' song.
Just my opinion though, lets not quibble

Oh, come on, surely his finest moments were "Kill with Power" off of the classic "Hail to England", and Sign of the Hammer's "Guyana, the cult of the damned".Manowar's vocalist Eric Adams. Especially in the early stuff. Some of the songs on Battle Hymns, especially "Dark Avenger" and most of Into Glory ride.
Elvis? First pop idol? And let's not fall into the trap of Elvis being merely the first pop idol.
...surely you jest.
...but that's what internet forums are for...quibbling!Just my opinion though, lets not quibble
