I wouldn't have noticed if someone hadn't pointed it out, and I'm sure that coloured the way I listened to it. The way it IS is great, too.

Vocals are the right level. You already know about the bass.

Thanks Greg. I've since remixed and eq'd things a bit, so hopefully the ep can be heard throughout, as it IS there. Appreciate the feedback.

Hey ur song is quite cool,even though i don't normally listen to this kind of music it left me with a warm feeling...maybe its the way the vocal part is sung...i dunno...indeed the volume is a bit high and maybe u should try some kind of voice reverb...u know...to blend in more naturally

i didn't really enjoy the drum loop at the beginning.

apart from that, shiny production (a bit to RnB for my taste tho)

the piano is superb

your singing great (reminds me Sting...

)

Vocal verb... I've overdone it so much in the past that I've gotten away from it a lot lately. I may take the vocal down a couple dB before I add more verb.

Yes, the drum loop gets old to me even. Perhaps I'll cut that in half. And Sting.... Ah...

When I was trying to pick a song to cover, it was between this and "Murder By Numbers." Sting is a fav, for sure.

I would leave the vocals, but that's just my taste. I like up-front-and-dry, as long as the singer can pull it off, which you can.

I listened last night again, and if you cut that drum loop intro in half, it'll be a near-perfectly crafted little gem of a song.

Thanks Infektedm. I have listened to it about twice as many times. And thanks Lunch Money for the comments, too. I think I'm going to trim the intro and stop trying to tweak it. Perhaps I'll remix at a later date, but I need to move on for now.

I listened to the new final mix and compared it to the earlier one. I like the earlier one better.

The new one sounds more in-your-face, different EQ on the drums, and overall more polished.

But the one thing it lacks of the earlier version is the intimacy. The earlier one sounds like you're sitting right next to me and singing a heart felt song, whereas the newer polished one forces me to think that you're singing from a very expensive club.

I've never thought about making a song sound less polished to accomplish an effect, but that seems to be the case here.

Then again, it might just be the EQ/compression on the drums that make me feel this way.

Anyway, still a great song!

Interesting comments. I can see what you're saying. I'll take it into consideration when I go back to do a final mix. Again.

Reminds me of a piece I did for a friend. He's making a movie and I'm scoring it. I did a few very rough themes and he fell in love with them. When I finally did a full score of one of the themes for the teaser, he didn't necessarily like the old one better, but he just had such an affinity for the low-fi vibe and still wants to use it for something.

The moral of the story: Be careful who you show your rough drafts. Sometimes they get preferred to the finals.

Thanks mucho. I'm excited to get cranking on that score. The film isn't edited yet. The trailer looks good though. Hopefully there's more to the movie than some guy walking around a lot.
