They're not very well known because they came out at the same time as the Polysix, which is of course famous. The problem is, you can only really treat it as a monosynth, because if you spread the four VCOs out over 4-note polyphony it sounds kinda tweezy. Layer up and crossmod those babies on one note, tho, and you've GOT something.TechnoWeeniePas wrote:Another small analog that you may want to look for, and one I have been DYING to own, is a Korg Mono/Poly. I dont know why, prob because it was one of the first synths I used, but I think its a really killer analog.
I got rid of my Mono/Poly some 15 years ago... too heavy, not stable enough, and I had a bunch of other analog synths that I liked using better. These days I still have a couple of them, but I've mostly moved on. When you were in the generation that used analog because that's all there was, this whole 'rediscovery of analog' thing just seems kinda silly.

The SixTrak is actually better built than the MultiTrak, has slightly fewer features but sounds really good. You can sorta use it as a six-voice synth, but with six notes playing six patches in Stack mode it's killer as a monosynth. However, there are a lot of menus involved in both machines; they lack the full front panel that you seem to crave.
The MS-10 lacks the MS-20's dual filters, a critical omission if you want to sound exactly like William Orbit. But it's a cute toy to learn on, if that's all you want.
