I currently have an akg d8000m mic hooked up through xlr to my scarlett2i4. Its fine for recording vocal type stuff but it sucks when leaving it on the desk pointed at me for using for speaking, i.e. things like skype. The volume is very low. So I assume its just not made to pick up audio from such a distance.
So for this use I just want to use one of those cheap mics made for a normal soundcard, the ones with the 1/8in stereo jacks. However any time Ive tried to convert those plugs and plug them into my interface I never get audio. I tried this on my old ak1 and also on my scarlett and can never get anything
So I was wondering if anyone has every converted one of those mic jacks and had them work with the 1/4in inputs on an audio interface. If so what adapters did you use and how?

Why not just use a Behringer XM8500 instead. It's great for voiceover stuff.

well i already have the d8000, and it works fine, and I already have some of the cheaper mics, so Im not really looking to get another one. I was just trying to find an adapter setup that would work with what i have
