Ah sou... :dog:

Wow....and wow again. Serum AND Codex layered together. Simply huge...

Huge sound, huge timbral range, huge CPU hit... :hihi:

But less than $200 combined. :phones:

I'll probably get Serum as well, but it does not have a similar sound to me at all. It sounds a hell of a lot warmer. I a/b'd the both of them for a long time and I was unable to get Serum to sound nearly as rich in terms of it's filters. Codex sounds like a hybrid wavetable synth with analog filters, Serum, while more capable in most ways, sounds purely software. Whether or not you like one or the other, or like me, both, is a matter of opinion, but I bet I use Codex a lot more and Serum as more of a special "spice" only used from time to time, kind of like I use Massive.
Yeah I agree, there really is a big difference in the character. Serum is high quality digital and Codex does have more of a vintage character. I actually am liking it more the more I demo it.

I would just like to thank all the people who mentioned the Waves Universe deal... I would have ended up paying more without that info.
I also think it's cool that WU honored the coupon:)
$55 is around €40... which is a steal!

Yes, nice. Too bad it doesn't work anymore.

I share that opinion. Codex is more hybrid wavetable and modelled circuits and hence has a warmer character than Serum. Both are interesting, I already have Serum, but $49 is certainly tempting if Waves will honour it.

Anyone else having trouble with the VCA envelope re-triggering? I'm trying to create smooth chord pads with longish attack and release, but the envelope doesn't seem to retrigger when you play two same notes in a row. Say you play A minor chord after C major chord, only A note retriggers the envelope, C and E don't since they are on both chords. This when sequencing from a DAW. Doesn't help if I leave a decent gap between the notes.

Or something, it just doesn't sound right.

The wavetable scan reset also snaps through the attack time, if a wavetable scan is retriggered/reset between two notes.

Maybe I'm not doing something right, since the preset pads sound mostly fine.

Actually the presets do the same, for example the Emerald Dream (MW) pad. Playing from keys it sounds fine, but if I play a chord sequence from Studio One, it snaps between every chord even tho there's plenty of attack and release.

I went for both (Serum and Codex) and have been in the "wavetable" laboratory for a while now.

I'm surprised how different they sound, it seems odd to make too many comparisons.

Codex is definitely a Waves product and as such, much character comes from the filters, EQ, FX, etc.

It seems to me these elements color the sound considerably.

While Serum is a cleaner instrument, Codex has more of an "Analog" personality.

That's fine with me, being a big fan of tubes, tape and all things analog.

I made some presets for Codex to specifically focus on the mentioned "analogness" of Codex.

All presets including the percussion (minus kick/snare), several pads, melodic parts, bass, Arps, Noise FX, etc. were made using only Codex and these presets.

Not a bad sounding synth for $50-75

Check this envelope behavior out, it's what I explained a few messages ago. This is the Emerald Dream (MW) preset, maybe slightly modifed, but you can hear when two consequtive chords in the middle share notes, there is something funky going on and it's not a smooth transition. The rest of the chord changes don't share notes.

It's a private track, hope it works. Didn't find a way to embed.

Can anyone confirm this?
