VSTs for metal

Hi! I'm looking for VST instruments and FXs for composing metal (I've tried a real guitar... I prefer to forget). I already have my DAW and some instruments and FXs but nothing for metal, it's all for EDM.
My budget is about $300. Basically I need some guitar instruments, bass, drums and FXs. I know $300 is not much, but that's the max. I can afford right now.
Thank you!

First thing's first, get Kontakt.
Then you can look into Lyrical Distortion stuff, there's better, but their stuff is really cheap.

But yeah, everyone needs Kontakt.

What works pretty good is my special trick.
A clean electric guitar like in Tension Ableton Live .
GTR3 for the amp and effects and cabinets and such.
Next simply play your guitar in Ableton through the GTR3.
Its just like playing a guitar thorugh GTR3 except now your playing an Ableton Instrument through it.

I don't know what DAW you have but I have Ableton.
In Ableton I have drums, guitars, stuff like that. Ableton comes with some Audio Interfaces like FAst Track.
I would mostly just stick to your DAW you have before you waste your money on stuff you don't know you need.
Waves.com stuff is always going on sale. So maybe wait until GTR3 goes on sale.
Kontakt is lame. Everybody has it but it sucks. Guitar Rig sucks too. Not to be confused with the wonderful GTR3 by Waves.com for 140 usually. Check out Wavesuniverse for a bit better deal. If you are on a budget never by Waves.com stuff full price it is always on sale.
And for the grand finale. Check it this out.
MUSICIANSFRIEND.COM GTR SOLO FOR 18 DOLLARS. Worth it eh!?

That part of it I disagree with. It's much harder to get it sounding like a guitar, and there are some things on guitar that are pretty much impossible on a keyboard.MadAnthony81 wrote:Its just like playing a guitar
If you're going for simple then it can do a reasonable approximation, but for bends, slides, solos, string pinches, finger tremolo, tremolo picking, whammy bar, etc., that's where you'll find things much more difficult.

For an "instrument" you could try Shreddage by Impact Soundworks - works with the FREE Kontakt player, has power chords, hammeron/pulloffs, bends and whammybar stuff all for $140. Your DAW should come with decent if not wonderful guitar FX. GTR is good but you need the full version to get the best amp emus - but there are many good free ones out there.

PS
Almost forgot - MokaFix - one oof the best freeware amp emus.

I play rhythm guitar to a tolerable standard. I only use it for writing music tbh I'm do Vox primarily.Ayorinde wrote:For an "instrument" you could try Shreddage by Impact Soundworks - works with the FREE Kontakt player, has power chords, hammeron/pulloffs, bends and whammybar stuff all for $140. But that Shreddage is the best vst emulation I've heard so far. The rest I've seen sound very stilted.
So cheers for the link!

While we're on the subject here's some metal I prepared earlier... I wouldn't expect you to take my advice without showing something I've produced to prove I know what I'm talking about

Maybe AAS Strum Electric GS-1? Switch the onboard amp & effects off, put a good guitar (amp) suite afterwards (for example SHRED or AmpLion or any other of the better known suites), and you can compete with AC/DC and Metallica...

Yes. But he said he's done with guitar playing I think. So what do you suggest?
With a built in instrument. I can do riffs. And solos. basic stuff yeh but what do you expect? Ofcourse it doesn't do that. But on top of that it is still possible with work to do it with built in instrument, just not easily. For example, take a pitch and put in on the guitar whalla a "bend". With enough work he can do it but I don't know who in heavens sake asks for a guitar VST and expects to sound like the worlds best guitar player huh.

That sounds really good mate. Schreddage II sounds exactly for what I wanted.
BTW, I really like the track too, has a bit of a Ministry vibe going on.

I agree with all that. The only thing I don't agree with is "it's just like playing a guitar" - it isn't, it's more limited, and I pointed out some of the limitations.MadAnthony81 wrote:robojam wrote:That part of it I disagree with. Thank you all for the suggestions, I'll try some of that stuff.
I would prefer to avoid sample-based instruments. But I know physical modeling is not really there yet. What's your thoughts about Xhun Audio IronAxe? Also, I know its sample-based, but what about MusicLab guitars?
For drums, any good suggestion specifically for metal?
Great track an-electric-heart!

Cheers, music-wise I'd been listening to White Zombie that dayRobmobius wrote:Sorry I meant to reply to this earlier...an-electric-heart wrote:While we're on the subject here's some metal I prepared earlier...
