So how these compare with ConcreteFX Kubik :p

I think these compare to Kubik the same way that Cameleon 5000 compared to Alchemy, or Kontakt 1 to Kontakt 5. I mean, the former were good, but the latter opened an entirely new universe. It's the same when comparing Kubik with Serum (I still didn't try Codex).

I've just spent the day working on a soundtrack using only Codex, I did the same thing with Serum last week (same film), so it's been interesting comparing the two. Initially I was a bit worried that I might have purchased two similar sounding synths (impulse buy due to very low price on Codex from Waves Universe) but luckily they sound completely different. In a nutshell.. Codex is relatively warm sounding with quite a lot of nice presets. Serum on the other hand is very brash and edgy with not so many nice presets. They both sound great but in different ways...
If I was doing a soundtrack for a film like 'Drive' I would probably start with Codex but if I was doing something like the 'Dark Knight' it would have to be Serum. Once again it's a case of 'Horses for courses'.

And again, for some people (like me) the presets were the selling point. Most of them are useful. In fact, there are so many good presets, I'm overwhelmed
Element is like that. Now I have two synths that inspire me every time I use them that have more shit than I'll ever use!

I impulse bought CODEX and was skeptical because I didn't demo. Based on the twenty minutes I just spent with it, I may invest in Element.
I love Ohm Force, so I will probably end up with Serum as well.
I also love punishing sounds.
But I will say this. I'm not that young anymore. My ears get worn out faster now. Codex sounds great and my ears were fine. But Serum definitely has that razor blade being held to my ear drums problem.
I like the sound, but when it actually hurts, how much will it get used? Of course if I was still twenty-something and CGAF, I would roll my eyes at this. Things are what they are.
So many great choices these days.

Is that price still available? I looked around, couldn't match it.arkmabat wrote:Codex has some truly amazing presets. Even SFX like "Solar Wind" too. ... Pretty happy with it for $56 overall

Almost bought Codex yesterday but I had already decided to buy Serum and was trying to keep the GAS in check lol. Kind of wish I had taken a longer look at it.

Like many things in these digital days it comes down to are you a player or are you a producer?
Codex has a more organic sound that sits in the mix and more suited to the player/musician. It has a very pleasing soulful sound in the vein of the old ppgs.
Serum is a hyper digital ultra super in your face mega modern sound blaster suited more for todays insta gratification producer type (what do they call it now? EDM).
That being said...it doesn't appear that you can mod the filter with the oscillators with codex...which I find ridiculous and irritating in a modern synth at this price range. I wouldn't lay out more than $80 for anything that can't mod the filter with the oscillators. That just blows my mind.
Waldorf still does it better.

Codex has nothing to do with Serum. It's not a "copy" or even "inspired by". WT synths just seem to be in the air these days.MorpherX wrote:Codex is a copy-toy from Serum with a low quality.
You can even get out more smooth sounds from Serum than from this Kotex thingy if you know how to tweak and use Serum.

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Particularly since they both came out and almost the same time and both have undoubtedly been in development for quite a while.Spitfire31 wrote:Codex has nothing to do with Serum. You might as well just say they are all copying the Waldorf Wave or PPG Wave 2.
If anything sounds artificial it's Serum, but don't get me wrong it's an outstanding synth.
Codex is a huge sounding and amazing instrument, I just wish the feature set and interface were much deeper, a la Serum.

I spent a few hours with each, and there is no way you could get as rich a sounding filter and resonance with Serum as is easy to get with Codex. Yeah, you could post filter it to take off the edge, but it's not even close to being the same thing.MorpherX wrote:Codex is a copy-toy from Serum with a low quality.
