Waves License Question

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased Codex, and when I ran the Waves License Center it stated that my network interface card could not be found. Lo and behold, after much research, I had to reset the BIOS to factory defaults to have the motherboard recognize the NIC card again. By doing so, however, it appears that all my old Waves licenses are associated with a computer ID that is different than the one now showing for me to transfer the Codex license to. Do I need to use the "license recovery" feature in Waves License Center to reassign these licenses to my "new" computer ID? If it is possible to somehow assign these old licenses to the new computer ID without using the license recovery feature I would rather do that, as then I wouldn't use my one recovery per year. My situation seems to me to be similar to (an involuntary) reformatting of a hard drive.

I think if you recover to USB, there's a way your year can be reset.... There is a trick that I used but I don't know if it's cool to talk about...

OK - thanks. I already recovered to my "new" (i.e., old NIC card with reassigned MAC address), so had to use up my recovery for this year (as required by Waves). Why can't Waves can't figure out how to identify the computer without reference to the MAC address of the NIC card, or at least acknowledge that this is similar to having to reformat your hard drive (which doesn't require license recovery). Ilok, for whatever its other faults, did not think I had a new computer/lose my licenses when this happened.

I'm having the same issue, and I'm not at all excited about having to enable my ethernet adapter in order to get their stupid licensing to work

I don't want to have to use my yearly, one-time option to reset. The only other alternative is to download their "team" share-your-computer software and talk to them on the phone. I wonder when the year will reset? At the end of this December?

The Waves license center uses the MAC address of the machine's Ethernet card and this is how it identifies the machine.

The reason it uses to the Ethernet card is that this is least likely component to be replaced.

In the event of multiple Ethernet cards on one machine (or virtual Ethernet adapters) the WLC will be set to the first one it sees.

As mentioned here, if you lose your licenses you have the option to recover them once a year and you will be able to recover again if needed 365 days after the previous recovery.

Sometimes you used your recovery and then lose your licenses again (for what ever reason), in this case you will need to contact Tech Support and they will review your case and will try to locate the lost license.

This is not true.

It takes MAC addresses from EXTERNAL DEVICES like modems/routers and docking stations.

I have a notebook to be mobile. I want to be able to use this notebook with different external devices.
