Btw am I the only one who fell in love with the MixConsole after about 2 minutes of using it?

Useless post #74: I like Cubase, because all the functions I need are always right there where I look for them (surely doesn't having anything to do with me using for the last 15 years).

I think so. It's pretty much universally hated. For reasons that have been discussed to death. From a mixing standpoint is terribleJosmoker wrote:

Well, I must be doing something wrong then.

Well there is mixing and there is Mixing. The mixconsle is terrible for Mixing.Josmoker wrote:Well, I must be doing something wrong then.

That explains my frequent hospital visits. And the quality of the results... Knew there was something I was missing.

I would appreciate if all earlir versions of Cubase / Cubase Artist was available. Not just the latest version.
This would give the users a more fair upgrade option.
If you wait long enough the cost of upgrading to the latest, and only available, upgrade can cost just as much as what you paid for the full software.
To avoid this you are 'forced" to get every upgrade as soon as they are released.
But I believe that it's part of Steinberg's business idea to not let any other then the latest version to be available.
Now we have a new version every half year.

No. Today bug free daws do not exist anymore, too much complexity and interactions. But cubase is free from show stoppers, at least to me and on my system.
reason is 100% bug free for me, and i have never seen forums like the ones there, where you just don't see bug reports every day.. even if once a month.. even if that... we talk about everything else *but* bugs. Quite amazing. Check any other forum of any other daw.
When they do happen they always seem to be on windows, and fixed fast.. I would say therefore, that taking windows and mac both into account, even reason 8 as a point zero release, is 99% bug free for the entire user base.
that's not 100%, but nothing even comes close in reliability. There was certainly never anything like pressing f3 to close mixer would crash it bug from cubase 7.xx version (can't remember precisely which one), and there never will be.
so someone can do it.. and that's the comparatively tiny team at propellerhead.!

Retrospective Record, VST Expression and Note Expression have become so central to my workflow now that I just miss them awfully when I demo another host.
That said, I'm forced to agree on the Mix console. To me, it's a bit like the Edinburgh Trams, ie, the expensive solution to a problem no-one was having...
It still feels horribly sluggish here and I'm still staring at little dots and trying to remember what does what. It just fails the intuitiveness test for me, and that's something that's a little disappointing for Steinberg who usually put a bit more thought into new things.

Just to be relatively repeating redundantly over again, here are the main things that keep me using C6 when I'm mixing. There's more, be these are the biggies.fandango wrote:Retrospective Record, VST Expression and Note Expression have become so central to my workflow now that I just miss them awfully when I demo another host.

1) Command Focus. Having to click on the mixer in order to target keycommands to it renders it entirely unusable to me. This one issue alone will keep me in the past
2) Hover. Having to hover to get at anything is beyond annoying. It is slow (waiting for the popup), it is hard to click on the right spot when the tracks are narrow; you know... like you do when you are mixing a lot of tracks. And finally, it makes it difficult to get a feel for what the state of things are just looking
3) Value Display. Go back and look at the 6.5 mixer. You can see the state and value of EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME. They've made a minor improvement to this with the show values on separate lines option. But the font and sizing issues render it unusable in those modes.
4) Recall. The mixer states can't easily be switched between and the zoom doesn't retain it's proper relationships in the configurations. The State CAN be recalled if you CLICK ON THE F'N Mixer, but then it doesn't have a relationship to changes made to the rack. It's a half-assed relationship making configurations confusing and unintuitive. Just for giggles ... look at the Configuration and Rack buttons on the top. Each has a narrow button with horizontal stripes. Both have a longer button. The buttons for each (config, Rack) have the opposite functionality. Oh, and the track size recall sucks. And the configs are per project. It's just all f**ked up.
5) Control Room. Turned it from mixer into some Franken Feature . It has a thousand useful functions, but it's all hidden behind tabs and hidden collapser panels. Things you want to see together are on separate tabs. Horizontal faders? err... no thanks.
6) Contrast/theme. This one gets more "personal preference" admittedly, but based on conversations I've had I'm not alone. For some reason I can't easily see what is selected. And, I'm always clicking the control on track to the LEFT of the one I want to control. The fader area is just a blob to me.
7) Linking. Guess what doesn't need a link ... if I multi-select track .. guess what I want .. I know it seems weird to want Cubase to treat multi-select targeting like pretty much every program written in the last 30 years.
There's more ... but that's enough for one rant.

You missed several essential things:
- always on top bug while using the console in full screen (especially on dual screens)
- the resize bug
- quick grouping of tracks
And my personal favorite:
The Mackie BHUI (Mackie HUI) protocol doesn't work properly anymore. Personal record: hitting on the solo button for like 12 times until the host responded (or like 8-10 times until the host starts to play/stops, FF/FB, etc). And yes, I did check if my hardware is borked - it's random, it's always different buttons. It's absolutely no fun.
Filed several bug reports, no result.
I'm still working with C7.5 - why?
Because even with the workarounds and showstoppers, I can still get things done. And I actually like the metering module in the mix console - even though the EBU R-128 meter can STILL NOT be adjusted to needs (scale proper scale after custom reference level setup, custom color codes).
