I don't know what it is but it sounds wrong :(
I must say that I'm a complete novice at mixing, so I have no idea of what is wrong. :help: I could use every comment, advice here, you can even say it sucks completly :o as long as you say why :)

vox too loud, drums too quiet IMHO, not that I know anything. The vox sound a bit badly recorded, the reverb doesn't sound correct, a bit like the lovely French lady was stuck in a wardrobe when recording. TIP - never put lovely French ladies in wardrobes to record vox.

Thanks Cypher

Vox to loud : I will have a try on that.
Bad quality of vox : yes, I have no studio mic for the moment, shoudl give that priority
Drums too quiet : this is interresting, I tought there where to loud :? Will tr that allso

I released the french lady from the wardrobe, she is my wife :D

I tried to listened your music by clicking you sig. but get a server error :( Just to let you know.

Somebody allso says my mix is to hot :? Is this true and what does that mean ??

thanks for letting me know about the link in my sig!

regarding the mix being too hot, that generally means the overall level of volume is too high, either on the master track or some of the individual parts, this will cause digital clipping which sounds bad

fixed my sig now! But having listened to your style of music, I doubt mine will be of interest to you :)

Hey Bucodi
nice swinging track - I like it a lot!
I reckon any tips I would have had are covered by previous posts although you might be able to work around the vox quality problem with a bandpass/reverb combination - although it might not be the 'live' unprocessed effect that you were after?

France hey? That makes you, me and Ixox - there must be more of us? :D :D

Hello UniCon,

Thanks for the reply.
A bandpass filter :? Have to search some documentation how to use those, like I said I'm a real novice at this
The is some reverb on the vox, perhaps not enough ?

Allso french, hé ? Have to remember your name...

Hi again Rony
this is how I think about it - often the low quality is either due to a low sample rate or maybe boomy low frequencies?
So perhaps you could use a filter to take off the bottom end and some top end leaving a slightly 'telephone' sounding vocal, which if you compress, reverb and EQ right can sound pretty effective.

But i dont know if that would suit your track or not?
PM me about the bandpass if you need help?

Thanks Matt,

I will give this a try. If I have problems I'll pm you. It is right that the vox isn't good quality, I don't have studio mic yet... So I suppose that miracles will be impossible :(
But a good studio mic is expensive, have to put some money aside, I guess.

Dont you beleive it - I recorded vocals for a KvR competition entry using the built in microphone in my Webcam! :-o
I did what I described to you - bandpass, EQ, Compress etc and it worked OK.
(I didnt win though!  )

Salut Rony,

I'm the other french guy :D
The biggest problem for me is the vocal panned to the far left....
That kind of song should be mixed arround the vocals and like this it doesn't work for me. Try to center the vocals and place the other instruments from that point.
Turn up the BASS !!! Don't hear what kind of bass it is but a nice warm loud upright bass would do it in this song.
The piano sound quality is not very good... seems to saturate. You recorded it ? You may try to find a piano soundfont, record midi notes and play the piano in SFZ... Should be easier to mix.
For the vox.... buy a mic and voxformer ( http://www.voxengo.com )

There is a nice jazzy-retro-french mood in your song. :D

I love it as it is!

Sounds lo-fi and quirky :D

OK, maybe the vocals do sound a little bit like they are part of a different record sometimes... But having the vocals punchy and upfront is a nice effect.. I think maybe centring the vocals a little and a smidgeon of the same reverb that's on the rest of the song might help bring them a little closer together.

I LIKE the saturated piano... Makes it sound like it was from an old 78 record 8)

Generally though, I like the DIY sound of this :D
