I personally don't give a shit about what features are or aren't missing, i tried the demo of Live 3 and there's nothing i've ever seen can even compare.
I swear by Sonar, but all the recent Live hype got me interested enough to give the demo a try. Well, here I am $300 poorer but the proud owner of Live 3. :D It really is an amazing piece of software, I can't wait for version 4!

Quincy: just do it. Heh heh...

Yes, Quincy. You should do whatever it takes...start a lemonade stand...beat up kids for their lunch money...you name it :D

Live is the most simple app to get yer head around, and Live4 takes it all to the next level. I didnt' realize how much I'd utilize the routing changes, but it really does offer some creative options. The "follow" option on clips and the ability to randomize a bunch of clips during a performance is ingenious! You can keep something going and let it do its thing while you setup for your next sequence. Great stuff.

I'd have to say that the Piano roll is the best I've used. Its completely intuitive without having to remember 47 keystroke combinations to use it effectively.

Now I can't wait to see what the Propellerheads have up their sleeves :o

Joxer:

welcome to the Sonar/Live crew :)

I swear by Sonar as well, but Live is going to fill some niches that Sonar doesn't. Using them in tandem is THE solution I've been looking for, seriously.

I'm currently beta testing 4, and its pretty solid, and the new features are AMAZING

If it sounds good it is good.

I just got my copy of Live3 this afternoon. I've never really messed with loops much, but goddamn, this is a great app. It practicaly writes your damn song for you..

I cannot wait for VSTi support in this thing, gawd..

And once the dust settles from this release...

Midi track 1 with ERA

Midi track 2 with Vsti(Imposcar)

Midi track 1 receives info from Remote 25(and auto sync from host)for direct control of ERA etc.

Midi track 2 has midi track 1s midi out routed to its midi in....

I can play Vsti ok from R25...it receives note ons etc and I can send it all CCs,ERA CCs ok and syncs up ok....however no triggers,no program changes etc received from ERA to Vsti?

I assume what comes out of ERA Vsti is midi CCs(possibly something with ERA?but I don't think so)so weird Vsti dosen't fire?....Is Midi data from ERA going some where else or just not recognised?Seems Vsti is only receiving direct hardware CCs and Abletons?Mmmm? :bang:

Anybody else had success?

Anyway...Ableton 4 is incredible...it's all so seamless....a real beast

Ah well!...at a later date I'm sure. :band:
Thanks again, so your saying no midi from ERA is leaving Live4s midi out, thats shit, how about using one of Tobybears VST network midi thing-a-ma-jigs.

Sorry to keep going on, does ERA connected to a VSTi wrapped in EnergyXT work Ok ?? I thought I read that EnergyXT was causing it to crash :(

I haven't had any luck getting it(ERA) to run in eXT stand alone..runs in Orion, but I must be doing something wrong in eXT, no direct routing works or via sequencer..

dare i suggest using a midi loopback device

Sounds good, i do not have experience with this.
Could this do the job?
I mean making the vst`s understand era`s midi messages, as if they would come from a usual midichannel?
:?: :o :P

I think the problem is that midi out of VSTi is not supported in Live4 so this wouldnt work, unless the sequencing VSTi and the sequenced VSTi are wrapped in another VSTi eg EnergyXT, hence Motion not having any luck.

UNLESS you can get EnergyXT to see the midi loopback device from within Live

Yeah, since Live will never have PDC I guess we'll just pull out our UAD and Powercore cards and forgoe convolution.

Does Live 4 have automatic full plugin delay compensation?

Post

1.) You think i will have problems with my UAD Cards in Ableton :?:
At the moment i work with Nuendo and hoped
to use only Ableton for my Dancemusic Stuff.

Never worked with my UAD in Ableton. If though this Soft is somehow not that usefull anymore as i thought. :(

I thought Ableton would have PDC :?:

live 4.0 is absolutely faabuulous!!!! cpu drain is a bit high though. dragging midi controllerdata is better than in logic. workin with au s in live is fantastic and makes rewiring live into logic unnessasary.
after 12 tracks with softsynths from NI and arturia my G5 2x2 slows down tempo as if it got too much alcohol......then audio begins to distort.......
still I am very positive about the midi implementations .....!!!!!! totally adictive.

Hi Eric,

Quick question, what would keep you from abandoning Sonar for good? You mentioned using Live and Sonar together, does the midi implementation in Live still fall short of Sonar's? I realize Live 4 is still in beta stage, so I'm sure some things will change by final release time.

Post

Hi Creepjoint....just read Namlits post(thanks for the info)which came in before mine re Abletons response(odd I didn't see it before,my browser was obviously needing a refresh)....no midi out support from ERA or vstis etc...even to hardware midi outs, had tried again before to route midi plugs out to another track like before then route that tracks output to hardware midi outs and any other way I could see may work,..it's all dead. The midi routing is definately ok as I can play the hard synth ok from the keyboard(it's also really sluggish)Maybe they will go all out and implement support in the official release.I think they are getting a lot of feedback on these issues so here's hoping. :)
