I use Cubase SX2, the studio which masters the material uses Logic.

My problem is, my project files are a combination of audio and midi via soft synths. What i have been doing is recording each midi track to audio across the whole of the song. So the end result is 30 tracks of audio down the page which each span from the start to the finish of the song. One multi coloured block if you will.

This ensures when i save the project that when they import it to Logic everything lines up for them.

However, can anyone think of an easier method (other than the studio use Cubase!). Maybe there is a way of converting ALL midi into audio at the same time onto seperate tracks?

Any chance you have a multi-output audio interface (like a Delta 1010).. or could you borrow one?

If so, you could take your computer into the studio and simultaneously transfer a bunch of tracks from your computer into their system...

Also, if they're doing mastering (not mixing) work, do they need all 30 tracks to stay separate? Maybe you could you bounce stuff into submixes, like Drums, Guitars, Synth, Vocals, etc...

hmm, i've got a delta 66 but don't fancy taking my pc anywhere tbh. anyway, i've never been in the studio, a friend goes with my project stored on a cd.

and they do the mixing too. i should have made that clear, i don't trust my ears on such a delicate process. i don't mind doing it for stuff not going to vinyl/cd but pre-release i'd rather use an expert.

any other way? surely there is??

Export the project in OMF format. Logic can import it that way.

Also, I wouldn't advise recording out either. Doing that, you'll suffer at the mercy of the DAC's, while remaining internal will keep the quality the same. Why degrade any more than you have to?

I haven't used OMF before... does that bounce down soft-synth tracks? Are midi tracks included, or just audio?

your solution is the best. if youve done it already, then theres no problem...

i did it just the same way to transfer a project to pro-tools.

my solution is time consuming. each of say 30 tracks, has to be processed individually. so 30 lots of many minutes equals alot of many minutes bored sh*tless.

multi out soundcard no good due to sound degen.

so what is OMF? does it wrap all your audio and midi into audio? this is the main concern, getting everything into seperate tracks of audio, even the midi.

c'mon, surely there must be a 'convert all midi tracks to audio' button somewhere? damn this cross platform sh*t!!!

I've had to do this once, luckily only with audio files.

I think you're best off printing your VSTi tracks (OMF won't do this), and export all the resulted audio collage as OMF.

Some systems, such as ProTools, AudioVision and AudioFile, are able to read the audio directly from a disk containing OMF audio files, eliminating the time consuming importing and translating processes."

Forget about importing your plugins and settings though. All processing must be printed on the files.

I'd be suprised if mixer settings translated properly, dunno if they even do this, taking account all the varying panning laws and such.

OMF is probably the only doable way, but proceed with caution. That means print all plugins.
