I was at our local library picking up some videos and came across one that combined several epidodes of the 60's 70's "soap" Dark Shadows : Barnabas Collins, the 175 Yr old Vampire trying to get his love back. Well done! I used to be hooked on this show when I was a kid ( OK..showing my age here!!)
Some parts were funny in which many of the actors forgot a line or two and made up for it..and it was obvious, but due to everyday pressures in getting out the show: they kept it in. :-)

But now that I am into Sound Design/ Softsynths, I was listening to the sound track. Thr main theme it sounds is therimin..or could be a studio moog ( a large modular) that they had in hollywood. Definitly electronic! A very haunting melody as well.

There is a sequence in which it first starts off with a ring mod type sound: almost metallic sounding, and a drone.( could be a reactor ensemble :-) Then etheriel harps come in, up and down arpegios, very dream like, then an actual melody done with a woodwind instrument. Sounds like sax, but could be Oboe. A very Ambient piece! This show was ahead of it's time, and did not even know it!

Ok...anybody remember this show? Any fans ?( guess you will show your age if you do :-)

I used to get stoned & watch it when I was skipping school in junior high :P That was a cool show.

As a side note, I recently went on a rampage to find the original Dr. Who song. My memory of it was dead on even after more than 20 years :D That show sucked, but I love that intro music.

heh..my memory of the show is not as good as the opening sequence's music. I used to watch it during the #4 Doctor era..

I can't say that show sucked upon reflection, I just can't remember it that well. I DO love that cheeseball home video look both shows had :D

well..I used to be a total Dr Who fan as well..and I like the Tom Baker and John Pertreed ( spelling?? )ones. and the guy after Tom Baker too. The shows were great and well written considering the budget. Not bad effects either. Putney VSC3 sound effects and all!!

BTW: thanks for the tip on the Dark Shadow CD's. Might check 'em out. Might even try to reproduce the ambient section I described above for some fun.
