I'm still on 7.1 on my ipad2. I never update right away. I always wait until a few bug fix releases get done and all apps I use get an update for compatibility.

7.1 has always worked fine on mine using external controllers. No lags or latency increases.

The only reason I updated to 7.1 was to run a few apps now requiring iOS 7. When I find an app I really like and it requires 8, I might update.

Fine means it's slightly slower than ios7 on my ipad 3 (which I haven't upgraded yet because of Audiobus issues) but faster than my iPhone 4s which I'm not going to upgrade to download a web page or start an app.

But not so slow that I find it significant. But it is subjective and I'm a naturally patient sort of person.

"not fine" means: now my ipad2 keeps losing wifi connection, 90% of times it is impossible to reach a webpage. When connected (rarely), pages are loading so slow, or simply "freeze" and pages are full of "?" instead of pics. Let alone if you have two different sites on Safari, or when mail is opened: the ipad just freezes and the little "looking for" wheel keeps spinning. Never happened with iOs7. Rather simple games like Candy Crush now have sort of 1-2 seconds delays now and then. The wifi-losing connection is the main problem, as far as I can read in international forums. People are angry: not because of iOs8 (which of course is designed for new devices), but because they cannot come back to iOs7. Apple "not friendly" policy: they never talk about issues on old devices, they just put a red dot and ask to update. That is what I have done.

Specifically, which music apps are messed up? Were you running midi over wifi? Or anything wifi controller related?

No, I think Ipad is a toy for music, of course I have some music apps on it, like Garageband, Logic Remote, Figure, OmniTR, AniMoog and such, but I rarely play them, because I consider them sort of toys. The only interesting synth for me is Animoog, nothing else. For the rest, regarding music, I use Ipad for sight reading (notes, sheet music and exercises), books (manuals, magazines and such), mails and internet (kvr, news etc.). Oh, and Candy Crush, of course

Well, I understand you think Ipad is a sort of professional device for music, but when you have plugins such as Zebra, Omnisphere, Kontakt, Massive, Sylenth1, Dune and such on your computer, you don't need to waste time on a big phone to play music. I still use it for what it is (a "big phone" for internet, games and mail). Very useful for sight reading, exercises and as a midi remote control, though.

Honestly: how many people bought an iPad exclusively to make music? "Music making" (...) is funny on tablets, but it's nothing else than making music on a phone. Everything is still toyish (as in "Candy Crush") IMO. For the rest (sight reading, exercises, remote control and news/contacts) it is very useful.

Professional means = making money, having a job. So stop using that word as if it means something else.
The iPad has some great synths, with good touch control. I have no use for big phones to do internet/games/mail. I'm perfectly happy with my 4.5" smartphone, that I can operate with 1 hand... like a phone.
See, different people do different things... but this is a music forum, so maybe this topic is not for you.

Personally, I'm quite impressed with iPad "toys". More so than Massive, Sylenth, Dune, or just about any other softsynth full version on PC. The fact that they sound so great and have quite a bit of functionality for their price and platform. I have real analog synths, virtual analogs, ROMplers, sampler workstation, and PC stuff. The iPad holds itself up well in music making comparatively.

It's a compartmentalized substantially more is all.

It's use as a sound module or controller is amazingly good. Some folks putting out music exclusively on it. Sure, it's great for everything else too. Email, web surfing, games, music player, streaming media.

But if your issues with iOS 8 don't have anything to do with music making, you might get more answers or even some tips on specific apps in another forum, since this is KVR and the mobile forum is about music apps (sound makers, controllers, sequencers, multitrack apps, etc).

Always wait on those updates to be safe and check other forums for news regarding some of your other favorite apps not working.

Too bad you feel that way about the music apps. I suspect if you didn't approach it the same way as a PC (with the same expectations about running multiple instances in your DAW), and kept a pre-conceived bias out of your ears, you would also be impressed.

Or not. Plenty of differing viewpoints on practicality of iOS apps for real music production.

One mans trash is another's treasure I guess.

For me, it's been a ton of fun and I think the music apps with touch interface are incredible. I even bought a Korg MS20 iC controller specifically to use with the iMS20 app. Talk about some fun playing and patch creation.

How dare someone complain about an Apple product? I mean who needs WIFI? its not important is it? The OP complained about a fundamental connection problem he has with ios8. He gets treated like a lepur because he has other uses for his ipad? Very little practical advice is offered except don't complain here. As long as your all back patting about ipads strengths, its all fine. Very strange attitudes!!!

In my tongue "professionale" (professional) means something made for professional purposes and with particular characteristics (high quality, expensive, solid, secure, guaranteed), such as a piano, a guitar, a tennis racket, a mixer, a foot ball etc. Otherwise there is another word ("semi-professionale"), which is used for all those technical devices such as mixers, audio boards, tools etc. which are used by hobbysts but can give almost professional results. Out of these two words it is all "toysh" (synths and keyboards for kids, 50€ guitars, ipad apps etc.). "Toysh" (amatoriale) is not a bad word, just a condition. Of course "professionals" (as in "Hans Zimmer", "Jordan Rudess" and such) can play everything (ipad included) with professional results. But this is another story...

He's also edited the title of the post 2 times now and substantially edited posts themselves. Wifi wasn't even mentioned at first, just a compliant that the whole OS "sucks"
Much of the critical response had to do with the thread as it originally was, not as how you are reading it days later.

iOS 8.02 wifi connection sucks (... on my iPad2)
