And you don't know yet, Fluffy... but there are some really splendid gems among these discontinued things!

790 now.

I'm not sure how you handle it but the problem with loading up your VST folder with these "gems" is that some DAWs take forever to launch . Orion 8.5 even runs out of menu space in the insert drop down. Then there's anti-virus scans that turn into all night affairs. So if I ain't gonna use it I lose it!

nobody here has said it was a quick reference guide.
it is a chaotic repository for links for anyone who wants somewhere
to post them, for a receptive - small - audience of obsessive collectors
who can't think of anything better to do with the internet.
as for the pointlessness, well
1/ so you think past free VST plugins are disposable and should disappear without trace?
2/ shouldn't they be listed comprehensively *somewhere*?
3/ various reasons they might be wanted to revive old projects
4/ even the old ones are little works of art
if you want to manage VST plugin effectively in Orion, make a new VST directory and
add it to your startup scan list in Orion > VST plugin folders, then restart Orion. have a
'test' folder and a favourites/main folder.
but it would be good to have a Best Of Oldies Poll to narrow down to the main classics.
my old problem with plugins has always been how to classify plugins in categories, etc.
now that bobwood - or is it eidenk? has the whole thing as *.xml, it make it possible for
a plugin to belong to multiple categories without having to exist in more than one place.
you could use this somehow for a poll, best drum/best drum machine etc. or synths that
come under analogue and monosynth etc etc etc - as long as people have the will to do it.
otherwise you stuck with a thread where you can go pick up oddities now and then as
they appear, no claims made of fitness for purpose etc.

Was it you mztk or someone entirely else who posted a lengthy categorisation of instruments and effects, with sub-sub-sub-categories and all? Within the past few years.. It was interesting and I'd like to have another look at it, but can't find it again.

In the old freeware are the only plugins in existence w/unique features & sound. Your mind isn't going to get blown by clicking on the KVR news tab.

OK, it's time I finally post this huge list of mine in CSV format, 12537 entries listing all the freebies and magware I have. It's best viewed and searched in TablePro so I bundled the last free beta of that program with it, just run the exe and load the database, not sure if it works with Vista, 7, 8 or 10 however. Win32 plugs only btw and no VST3 either.
