Hey Joxer,

for my needs, both will probably be the best solution.

Sonar still has a number of desirable features for me

-Full PDC (for UAD-1, Voxengo plugs)
-Mackie Control integration
-Console view
-Superior bussing architecture
-In my opinion is it much easier to use effects whether it be mixing or mastering plugs in sonar
- I use external gear, and although live can now talk to external gear thru midi, its nowhere near as flexible yet.
-lower cpu/ram consumption for the same vsti/vst load in sonar.

and yeah, in general the sonar midi implementation has a bunch of the 'little' features you don't miss until you don't have them.

but again, it all depends on what you want to use the stuff for, Sonar still 'feels' like a DAW, whereas Live feels like an instrument to me, almost like a super VSTI eheheheheheh.

I'm going to primarily use Live for doing 99% of my drum tracks, and live performance stuff, remixing, and lots of dancier things. But I have a feeling if I want to finish a song done in live, I'll rewire it into sonar and mix/master it there.

If it sounds good it is good.

I'll echo the above post. While it's wonderful to see Live finally have a usable MIDI environment,it's just easier to do my final mix, etc.in Sonar IMO.It's the way I've worked with Live ever since it became ReWire capable, and I really don't see any reason to change.
OTOH,the new goodies in Live means I'm going to have to seriously think about gigging again-it's become a lot easier to do my stuff live now :)

Thanks for the replies. I've yet to try Live in Sonar through Rewire, I'm having too much fun playing with it on its own. I mainly write Jazz/Fusion, so I do use lots and lots of midi. Plus I've got some external synths I don't plan on parting with any time soon, Sonar does a great job of communicating with them.

f**k, I wish Id checked out Live alot sooner and wouldnt have wasted so much money on all the other wannabe sequencers. Only had it a couple of days and dang if it isnt the most logical, easy to use and creative sequencer out there. The manual is f**king simple thanks to Live itself being so intuitive, you hardly even need to refer to it!!

I really cant wait for v4 to come out to take the drain off my lappy through the incorporation of hardware, even with the small grumblings about midi VSTi sequencers and no PDC there is nothing to compare. All the other sequencers are stuck with their original design to function as a linear audio/midi multitrack in a hardware studio but do not aim at being an instrument in themselves.

Long live Ableton, shame everyones in on the secret
