Maybe... But sometimes limitations are also good, I like actually those primitive sequencers / arpeggiators on the early hardware synths, like the Juno-60 or SH-101 (my recent acquisition), really fun and simple with immediate results.
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

Simply in the accessibility to the different steps of the arpeggio, that's all. It is there that there is a more advanced use in his soft emulation. The accessibility to the steps is a pain in the original hardware. And the way Patrick managed the solution was nice.

For me, who have a bad eyesight, the ability to have a direct access to each step is a real advantage. And I think it is the same also for someone who wants to change the step n in the middle of the arpeggio (and make different tries or variations for make the progression more alive) without having to wind each time from the first step sequentially. It's just a question of simplicity of use.

With tools like Kirnu or BlueArp (or all the other arpeggiators specialized but remaining simple), these problems don't exist.

Ok, I didn't know you can do that with Tal-uno.

Thanks for all the advice BlackWinny and penguinfromdeep.

I have been playing with both all day and I can see they both have their place. I think I will probably end up buying both, but I'll snap up the TAL tonight before the price goes back up (its £18 at pluginboutique.com right now)

Regarding the arp plugins. Thanks for the links, I've been out of the VST scene for a long time (have been using just hardware) so I literally have only a few plugins so am on the hunt for some good free instruments and effects. I need Mac VST or AU if you have any suggestions??

ps. the Kirnu is not freeware, its 35 EUR. I grabbed the bluearp though thanks! :)

Kirnu 1 is certainly free, you might've mixed it up with Kirnu 2, also called Cream, which does indeed cost 35€.
Here's the free one:

Ah right, thanks for the link!

I have just installed Cream CM edition from this months magazine. Looks pretty good.

Kirnu is free. It is Kirnu Cream which is payware, as said subterfuge. Kirnu is an arp that I use for long (downloaded on their website).

I maintain two lists (for the moment) of excellent emulations of old hardware synths: Many of them are free or cheap... and a good number of them work as AU and/or VST for Mac. They can be clues for you. And I have selected them for their excellent quality (leaving aside all the craps).

Thanks for the links, although I think I might avoid looking too much. I don't want to fall into the trap of collecting VSTs like I did all those years ago. I have a few already that I've been sent as NFRs over the years which should keep me covered...

ABL2
Phoscyon
Nephaton
Nithonat
Drumazon
TAL-Bassline-101

Plus I have the Roland SH-101 and SH-2 plugouts, and Arturia's Analog Lab and Novation's Bassline and V-Station free with some hardware. Oh, and I found reFX Vanguard on a disc in the loft.

I have drums and mono synths pretty well covered, just really need a nice 80s poly.

I would like more VST effects though so I'll take a look at those :)

We have a new update available

From Facebook

"Our Alpha Juno emulation just got some new features for 1.5.0:

-Sysex Transmit and Receive directly to and from your Alpha Juno 1/2 or MKS-50. This allows ReDominator to work as a programmer for the hardware synth
-New and improved filter emulation of the IR3R05 chip
-VST3 and Audio Unit support
-Apple Silicon compatible (Apple M1-equipped Macs)
-Stand Alone version included

Features from 1.0 Remain:
-Accurate emulation of the AJ-2 including the famous Hoover patch
-14 different low aliasing waveforms including a unique PWM-sawtooth
-High quality full range 24dB/octave low-pass filter
-Unique 8 parameter envelope generator which enables much more complicated and expressive sounds than a standard ADSR
-200+ bundled patches (of which many are sysex converted from our own AJ-2)
-Patch importer which allows importing sysex patches from your own Alpha Juno and play them in ReDominator
-Chord Memory function

Visit our page to download the unlockable demo version:
https://www.audiorealism.se/redominator.html

Rave on!"

The beta process was pretty quick and I didnt get a chance to update my Factory presets (BS)
with the new filter, but that's something I plan on doing in the next few weeks and I will probably add a few more new ones.
I will probably upload a new folder to the forum so we don't break any of the legacy presets :tu:

Enjoy :hyper:

Tried the demo and it sounds pretty good. Not sure I hear anything to justify getting it for €95+VAT if you already have the TAL, Arturia or Cherry Audio version, or even Diva. Diva is €179, but it can emulate a host of different synths, including all the waveforms from the Alpha Juno.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Nice to see this getting an update.

Has the RE been abandoned?

Hang on a second. TAL and Cherry (and Arturia, I’m pretty sure) have Juno 60 and 106 emulations, but nothing I know of that models an Alpha Juno. ReDominator and Diva are pretty lonely in that regard. There’s something called Phutura, though. Might be a comparison earlier in this thread.
I hate signatures too.
