Hm, i just saw that i misunderstood what Ingo said. No, it won't work when you use it without admin rights. Largo, as other software, is always installed with admin rights, as usually, many programs require to write into places which require admin rights to write to at installation. But, as it only creates the Waldorf folder with the manuals in the admin's AppData/Roaming folder, running the host without admin rights will result in Largo crashing the host, and getting blacklisted after, as it expects the Waldorf folder in the actual users AppData/Roaming folder, when running the host as normal user. Typical UAC problem.
But as robotmonkey said, it's 2014, and usually, programs and installers are being programmed with these kind of problems in mind.

Well I'm a power user and I hate user mode limitations, so I run everything as admin and disable UAC completely. I know Windows well enough so they don't pretend to be smarter than me.robotmonkey wrote:Running a host or anything else, as a matter of fact, in admin rights is just plain bad practice and there is absolutely no excuse for it. It's just stupid, end of story. Music software that needs admin rights is really bad and incompetent programming, IMHO. When installing it must ask for admin credentials, when running it absolutely should not need privilege escalation. In AD 2014 anything else is just inexcusable and deserves full contempt.

Can anyone here verify that they've been able to run Lector, Largo, or PPG in logic without crashing?

Either. I'm wondering if buying a new MacBook Pro would help fix the crashing. If that means updating to X then I might have to do that. Updating to Mavericks didnt help, apple replacing the motherboard had no effect, reinstalling logic and Mavericks didn't help, trashing preferences and repairing permissions didn't help. waldorf didn't help.
Running the Vst2 wrapped to audio units with symbiosis stopped all crashing, so personally I'm blaming the wrapper they're using, but evidently they have no intention of fixing or even commenting on it.

They work in Logic 9 64 bit for me - not had a crash yet.

Seriously? I've sent them crash logs before (as well as a detailed description of what I was doing at the time) and they're still not sure what causes it. This has happened to me on 2 differnt Macbook pros and an iMac. Could other plugins be causing logic to crash even though the crash reporter always points to waldorf for crashed threads? For some reason the waldorf edition is rock solid (attack, ppg2, dpole). They work perfectly. According to their site, they're vst 2 wrapped to au so maybe that's the difference.

Thats why you put such stuff in All Users\Application Data (XP), a.k.a. ProgramData in Vista and higher*.chk071 wrote:...it only creates the Waldorf folder with the manuals in the admin's AppData/Roaming folder
...it expects the Waldorf folder in the actual users AppData/Roaming folder, when running the host as normal user.
Typical UAC problem..
Maybe somebody should let Waldorf know?
(*If you must place the stuff outside the appdir, which is where i think it really belongs, and usually was too, until Microsoft came up with the cool idea to UAC the Program Files directory.)

This is a big thread so excuse me if this has already been asked. Are these updates (Largo in particular) close to being fully officially released? I recently got past some software troubles and was able to update my studio setup to all native 64-bit. I lost Largo for the time being as a result (I don't generally like to bridge). I'm not especially interested in helping beta test, I'm more interested in downloading it once it really has been released/finished. Largo is a hella great soft synth.

PS:
Currently the guys at Waldorf seem to also work on fixes for the new OSX Yosemite which takes some time.

Remind me:
What is the difference between the Waldorf Edition LE and the regular Waldorf Edition?

Cant help with the other stuff cause i dont use it, but the LE WAVE only has 8 Voices and only responds to MIDI Ch.1, which means only one preset layer at a time.
PS.: Some time ago, when the topic came up elsewhere, i said that i prefer the V2 over the V3. This was true at the time, but after re-checking at a friends a couple of weeks ago i must say that im now tempted to get the V3 after all because i found it much better than what i remembered. In fact if it had the original machines sequencer, (even Hermann Seibs version has it, if a little buggy), id probably have grabbed it already because it definitely is not just 'more of the same' (as in yet another subtractive), and the featureset is actually quite impressive too, especially the fact that you can even use your own waves, should you desire to do so. (And who doesnt.)
Well...maybe for xmas.

The same here, I know that Wave has less features than the full Waldorf Edition
I don't know if the another plugins have other features also :S
BTW: if you want PPG V.3 I sell it

I is stated on the Waldorf page all along (albeit in German)
http://www.waldorfmusic-shop.de/epages/ ... cts/wed-le
Attack is also restricted in LE package:
Die Vollversion biete viele Vorteile gegenüber der LE Version:
Attack:
- 24 Parts anstatt 12 in LE Version

A first version of Largo and PPG Wave 3.V updates for the new OSX Yosemite are currently tested.
