Keith99 wrote:Just test driving it as I was really looking forward to this release and thought maybe the missing parts would not be so bad but I have found it no longer supports storing analysed curves to compare against - I use that feature a lot on Ozone 5 to make sure I am in roughly the correct shape as my reference track so its looking like I will not bother :(
I just picked up Span plus for this task, I like the smoothing options better too (FFT 8192, smooth to 1/12, 1/6, 1/3 octave) just for that extra confidence builder! :D

PS I think GlissEQ does this also if you already have it. Span plus is kinda like Gliss (without 1/12 oct smoother) except without the EQ

Cool that may be an option, I will look into it. Only slight shame is I have built up a nice library of snapshots in Ozone 5 that would be wasted but I guess I could do them again.

Melda makes MautodynamicEQ that has this feature too. I've not used it enough yet to comment on it's performance, but it's worth a look. Their interfaces are an acquired taste, but there are a lot of powerful features on tap. Jm2c.

I'm also dissapointed. I liked Ozone. I payed for every upgrade asap, but this one is totally not worth it. In plug-in terms speaking, only really new feature is this dynamic EQ and it's just in a lot more expansive advanced version? Damn I've got killing dynamic EQ from Toneboosters for 20 bucks for god's sake! The rest of the plugin is (correct me if I'm wrong) functionally reduced V5 in a different GUI. I have much better uses for 99 bucks. I've never been so dissapointed by iZotope product yet. Hope they will get back on track in the next version of Ozone.

Here's the iZotope response for what it's worth:

Well, of course. They won't tell: "Hey guys, OK, we've screwed up. Wait a month, we'll add the features back!" Streamlined mastering experience? Yeah, right. In other words: "We need more kids with less of the actual knowledge of audio to buy our stuff!" I get it. There's soo many of them. Some cash might appear. That's the whole motivation behind that "streamlining"...

Personally, I'm most angry about gate being now just a setting of a compressor. This was the difference from all the competition. Level of dynamic trating you were able to perform was really solid. Not anymore. This is a huge fail, nothing more.

(and those kids will pirate the stuff anyway, so even iZotope will eventually find out the magnitude of this fail)

Another thing that really pissed me off was the lack of value for money (imo). So I pay you guys 300 bucks for an 'upgrade' which actually has less features then my original Ozone Advanced? How is that fair?

If they had kept the features, and streamlined the process with the new design (and the new features). Then I'd have been happy to pay for an upgrade.

Meh... I say!

PS - I did send them an email outlining my concerns and telling them that I wouldn't be upgrading. The explanation that I got back was very nebulous.

Reading through that justification: the biggest BLA I've read in a very long time.

For Ozone 6, we were committed to designing a more refined experience that would guide and educate users through the various stages of mastering.
They designed and educated me into not handing them more money. That's some serious mastery. Mission accomplished.

What a load of crap. Reminds me of game publishers like Ubisoft who say that 30 frames per second are *better* than 60 frames per second, because (and here it comes) "it looks more cinematic". Actually they need to stick to 30 fps because the new consoles aren't powerful enough to achieve 60 fps with the graphic fidelity they want, but of course theft don't tell you that.

I've been reading the previous posts, and I agree with a lot of folks views about the removal of features being a bit odd, considering all the previous chin rubbing they must have done with version 3>5 changes, however that aside. I actually think version 6 is quicker and easier to use with the benefit of the standalone feature, which for me is the best allowing you to use your own VST in a chain where you think fit, for example I also put Toneboosters FIX in the chain, as I felt a bit snubbed with the loss of this "current trend" feature of dynamic eq.

I do think it's up to us to voice our opinions about Ozone 6 as rightly pointed out, the whole update, does seem like a marketing scheme as much as anything else. (Which is understandable as well)

My personal opinion, with the current work flow I can understand leaving some features out of version 6 but the "New" dynamic eq feature should be part of the basic version as well, this would maybe justify the upgrade price, I also think the price of the Pro version should come down a lot more, to give more folk a chance to get there hands on some already Pro features to justify the crossover and personal upgrade.

This way, Izotope can help us, whilst gaining sales.
