Someone may remember I announced an entry for the Synth1 challenge and removed it short before dealine. I discovered the uploaded mix was mudy and compressed to much when I listened with other headphones just minutes before end. The day I couldn't fix it and really upset I decided to remove it.

I took time to find out what was wrong. And it was a lot. After two days of moving faders, play with EQs and configure out compressors, I couldn't reach the goal. I changed the posiotion of my monitors which sound better now. :dog: Also I banned 2 cheap head phones and ordered some new professional. Wow, didn't know that my bad ears can hear such details. :phones:

With new phones the final mixing was easy to do. Passed the tests on some other systems directly.
I also simplified my mastering process but this is still in progress.

What I'm talking about may be interesting, but I'm sure you want listen to results.

Here it is. I would appreciate to read about your opinion of the improvement in the comments.

Who wants compare can find the old version on SC for some days.

Cheers.

I keep changing my mind on this voting, some go up, some go down. May change again yet, they all sound good and have their own thing, all very polished.

Thanks, MTLE for this after the show track. Very nice mix now.

I was worried, and glad you got this track spiffed out :)

Before listening, one thing I recommend to everyone is to use a strict high pass on almost everything on the lows. You'd be surprised how many hidden lows sneak into the track, added up over multiple instances.

:) New headphones was the single best thing I ever bought - not $2,000 of plugins can beat that, ever.

And what headphones did you buy?

Its a beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO. What really surprised :o me is the feeling for the room with this headphones and the details in all frequencies. No question anymore why some headphones are cheap and others not.

Agree. I already put hipass to almost everything. Its on each instance, often on sum channels too and on master track of course. But if real deep bass is wanted theres a thin line between to less and to much. I never got this right on the old trash.

Would never buy plugins for $2,000 :D There is to much useful freeware out there.

I voted. Fairly hard to pick favorites this month, there were so many interesting tracks! :) Keith303's was the one that pulled me in the most, though.

Voted. Great stuff!

Great submissions by everyone! Synth1 is a bad, bad boy.

Thx for everyone's comments and submissions! I had a blast as always!

Now back to my corner, or maybe my turntables for a bit perhaps until the next 64-bit Windows VST.

Voted. Lots of great tracks!

All done voting. Some really awesome stuff in this challenge. Nicely done.

I voted as well! Every single track had lots of creativity, and something really interesting to offer. This was my first OSC so I didn't know what voting was going to be like - I thought it was going to be a lot of work and somewhat tedious - but it wasn't!! It was so fun to hear what everybody came up with, and I couldn't help but leave at least a comment or two on every single track!!

HOWEVER - I was very harsh in my voting! Please don't be offended. I wanted to honestly separate the good from the GREAT as best as I could, and I couldn't really do it unless I spread my votes. I only gave out three 5s, and spread the rest fairly evenly between 2s and 4s. If you got a 5 it was because you did interesting things with the Synth1, PLUS came up with a song that absolutely dropped my jaw for whatever reason. If you got a 2, that doesn't mean I didn't like it!! Every song I listened to was good to the point where I felt a little bit awkward for even submitting to this competition, but I just can't get the 3s or 4s to stand out as 'especially good' in my voting unless there are some 2's.

Great work everyone. I'm so glad I tried out the OSC! I'm going to enter more of them in the future for sure! :tu:
