Okay, cool. Thanks for that, I had no idea.EvilDragon wrote:I have an MKS-70 (didn't hook it up and turn it on in some months now) and from what I recall it IS ridiculously sensitive to velocity in positions 2 and 3... basically position 1 was the only one I found usable when played from my Kurzweil PC3K8... So methinks Martin nailed the response in his plugin, at least from what I can tell.

No prob
Although I suppose it makes sense to put all Dynamics switches to position 2 (linear) and then shape the velocity with a MIDI processing plugin before any MIDI hits PG8X... It's another way to deal with it, I'd say.

You lose a lot of velocities that way. Velocity curves are best implemented inside the instrument rather itself than in the MIDI stream, where you're re-mapping only 127 values. (Though on the other hand, the Yamaha DX-7 only recognized 14 different velocities and just about nobody ever noticed.EvilDragon wrote:No prob

It's kinda hard to have a consistent control over more than 14-16 velocity levels, anyways, even if you're a master pianist.

Yeah but the fact that the same 14 sounds keep playing over and over can be noticed, particularly with sounds where the velocity modulates oscillator pitch or filter cutoffs.EvilDragon wrote:It's kinda hard to have a consistent control over more than 14-16 velocity levels, anyways, even if you're a master pianist.

Will Martin update this for OSX, too?

I'm getting hanged notes in both Unison and Mono modes... I apologize if this was already stated.

I've stated the same thing about 6 months ago, fairly certain it's on Martin's list.EvilDragon wrote:I'm getting hanged notes in both Unison and Mono modes... I apologize if this was already stated.
To verify, are you getting it when using a sustain pedal, and playing two notes?
Here's how to reproduce the error, in mono/unison mode:
play a note
press & hold sustain pedal
release first note
play a second note
release sustain pedal
release second note
the first note will continue to play, until you play that note again.

Tested AU in OS X 10.10 (Yosemite). Hosts: Rax, DSP-Quattro and Digital Performer 8. Plug-in passes validation and opens GUi without problems. However, if we keep playing, after a while the sound becomes "granulated" (lots of small spikes), perhaps a memory problem. My Mac is very powerful (iMax i7 2012), and has 8 GB of RAM. Will test in other hosts, like Logic, MainStage, Reaper and Garage Band, but so far the behavior is consistent. I will also test in OS X 10.9 as soon as I have the time.

As Martin has mentioned, the AU version isn't optimised at all. I also get a lot of CPU-related spikes when playing notes with long-ish decay in quick succession (Live or Tracktion in Mavericks, in this case).
The VST, on the other hand, is very economical with CPU resources and I get no similar effects in the environment mentioned.

No sustain pedal used at all! I just play some notes in Poly mode, then switch to Unison or Mono mode and getting voices playing constantly. Very annoying.

Ah, you're getting it with mode switching as well. That's sort of identical to what I'm doing above (in mono mode). It's a note-off/note-priority issue.EvilDragon wrote:lionscub68 wrote:I've stated the same thing about 6 months ago, fairly certain it's on Martin's list.EvilDragon wrote:I'm getting hanged notes in both Unison and Mono modes...
