I'm having problems with my Matrox 400 and seems like I need a new video card. (too many errors)

I am running an AMD XP 2.6 with an ASUS A7N8X.

I want dual monitors.

Is the Matrox G550 the way to go. I don't do any gaming, btw...

I remember some problems with Matrox and BFD, any others?

All the Ati cards have crisp 2d image quality. Most of the range support dual monitors as well. And the software is up to scratch nowadays, too. You might think they're intented for gaming, but they're infact very good cards for general use as well. Think of the 3d processing as an added bonus.

You can get pretty damn good deals on Radeon 9600/9800 nowadays. Most (if not all) of them are dual output as standard.

Dunno much about nvidia.

Not to put down matrox too much, but isn't it a bit too oldschool already?

Matrox oldschool? With 360mhz RAMDAC's? I think not. I picked up my G550 for $36 with shipping off of EBay, and does a wonderful job with my LCD flatpanels.

I was just looking at the G550, why do the two outputs look different than each other?

DVI and VGA, depending on the flavor of the G550. There is a single DVI to 2 VGA splitter you can get for the single DVI port card, or the DVI and VGA port card, which you can get a DVI to VGA adapter for around $5-$10, which I got. The beauty of this one over the G450 is that it doens't interfere with the UAD-1 card! Woohoo!

yeah any radeon on the market today with dual monitor support should do you good..

that said.. for some odd reason my older 7500 with dual monitor support refuses to work.. and emailing ati techsupport through their own support app has resulted in nothing.. I guess they are waiting until late july when the warranty expires to respond to me..

that said about that (:D) I'm using a radeon 8500le w/o any problems and have been for several years now.. crisp graphics and decent 3d power!

to your question (and w/o looking at a g550)*deep breath* I would have to say one is a VGA connector and the other is a DVI (flatpanel) connector. most dual-monitor supporting videocards come this way.. you just get (or are supplied in most cases) a DVI-to-VGA adapter that works as a middleman b/t your videocard and your monitor plug on the DVI slow on your videocard.. *exhales sharply*

I can vouch for the ATI radeon 7000 VE on my ASUS A7n8X-x . It has dual monitor support and it works well with the UAD-1 and the Oasys card. I have it set up for dual monitor although only with Cubase on one monitor with other stuff on monitor #2. for single monitor support I have an MX400 with nvidia chipset. Its like a rock. (In my third PC) with other Oasys card.

I also own a Matrox 400 and it is not very stable in my ECS k7s5A.

I have a powercore and then added a UAD-1, couldn't get the UAD to work....

Perhaps it was the my Matrox...

So, if I get a new video card, maybe I can get a UAD also.... missed the blow-out... crap

I got the pops and clicks on export audio just like it said it would. Switched to the G550, pops went away. I think your machine is just cursed.

Have you considered doing chants for it?

I think the video card has been a problem for awhile.

It (the PC) did really well for the first year and a half, then minor problems. I thend to push it a bit hard at times.

Chants, ya I do that too.

I'm gunna pick up a card next week.

I know that you got the Matrox, but I'nm edgy after this one... I'll look around
