I have loved music my whole life. At a young age I took fife, bugle, and guitar lessons. We were dirt poor. No father raised on welfare, basically a ward of the state, but my mother found a way to buy me instruments and stereo equipment. She was a hell of a singer. She sang at church until they ran her out for having seven kids and no husband. She was artistic and musical and some say I inherited it from her. I never finished any of the lessons. I did everything half-assed. Had a grant to go to Mass. College of Art, dropped out after two years. Sang or played in a few bands, always ended up quitting. 2001 I discovered computer assisted music. For awhile I thought I had found a way to make the music that lived in me. First loops and eventually VSTi's ,but I knew I wasn't a musician or composer or even a producer. It felt cheap and phony. 2006 cancer hit me. Stage 4 incurable. Pain, depression, just waiting for the inevitable. My Therapists encouraged my to find solace in my music. Disabled, unable to work I had lots of time to try to make music. Living on SSI disability left me without the means to afford proper equipment or software. Freeware filled the void. One thing was inescapable. My music sucks! My wife and kids, friends and family completely ignore it, too polite to be honest. I post my work, but only these four walls hear it, no one listens. Can't blame them Computers allow anybody to make music but they can't provide talent. I used to enjoy music, now it's just one more thing that I failed at. I thought the cancer would solve my problems. The joke's on me! I have survived far longer than the doctors thought I would. Well I guess the time has come to stop kidding myself. Time to let it go. My music sucks and I know it.

I listened to some of your music before-and it didn't suck all the way or anything, it was plenty catchy and good to listen to. I would say at this point, what is the most fun is doing it your own way. I learned guitar, because I thought it would be a physically interesting thing to play, and that's how I play.

Fact is: no music suck.
No matter what genre, there's always people who like it.
I think is all about what you really want:
be a superstar DJ? Start playing music you like in every hole in your city.
be a superstar EDM producer? Start analyzing others music and put in your own style into it.
be a big Hollywood Movie soundtrack creator? Same as EDM producer, but with a orchestral vsti.
And so on.
You need a goal, an objective to achieve. And get your hands dirty.
Frustration comes when we don't achieve our goals.
But frustration is only temporary.
Our love for music is eternal.

i havent listened to your music, so i cant comment on if i think it sucks or not.
really though who cares?
make it because you want to make it. make it because you enjoy making it. make it for your ears and your soul.
if you stop wanting to make it...stop making it. if you stop enjoying making it...stop making it.
it doesnt matter who hears it or who likes it. what matters is that you enjoy doing it.
from the sound of it, you are all too aware of how short life is. we should all use the time we have to do the things that bring us joy, regardless of what others may think of it.

I think I am a good example of this-if it's for my ears only, it often sucks because I am fine with that. Who cares? I mean I'm not selling half-assed stuff, and I can play well at any point. To be good, you have to basically totally enjoy the bad points. Sorry, but it's probably a necessity.

Does you music technically suck, in which case you can improve (like all of us) by reading, experimenting and developing music in a way that is pertinent for you?
Or does just the appreciation of your music suck?
I realise that you've had a very tough time of it in recent years, so I don't want to be too harsh.
But if you know how your music sucks, then why not reverse this or go off in a different direction?
Plus, I doubt your music actually sucks at all.

To feel sorry for oneself is the wrong way. Make the things you like and don't look back.
The most important thing is to have a good time with the things we do. A lot of people making music but are not very successful and very often they know that the music is not (yet) on the level to compete with others.

I look ahead into the future and once I can picture what was cloudy, I start to loose interest in finishing it I think. I have to remember that others won't get to experience what I'm experiencing until I take the time to actually lay down the notes and put what's in my mind on the screen.trimph1 wrote:You and me both...arkmabat wrote:Hey, at least you finish your songs. All music that has sold millions makes me sick. Same would go for you-say you were in a room with a bunch of albums for all eternity. case closed
