One Synth Challenge #69: X-Jupitae Flexoid by CK_Modules (Congrats to Keith303!)

Hehe! So for earlier OSC's I made tracks which were "off the planet" OSC-wise and basically made the middle of the charts with tunes, melodies, and lots of cheese, - so, this time I did a spacey, psytrance type of thing and of course, it gets a better reception, and people were surprised and question whether it's the same DoctorBob! Not complaining, music is a very personal thing, and I simply like to "entertain" people.

In the end you can do whatever you want within the rules - so on my list of things to do are a Boogie-Woogie, and a D-I-S-C-O track.

For this OSC, I'll probably re-visit the current style of mine, but may go a little more full on chillout.

OSC C Mode has a noise option at the bottom of the drop down list.

Noise is available on OSC:C Mode 'Noise'
Flexoid has 3 totally different types of MULTI-MODE oscillators

You can also use Filter B to modify/shape the noise seperately by switching Filter B On and setting Input 1 source to OSC:C and set the Input 1 Level.
You can apply any filter type and any modulators as normal

This puts the Filter in Dual Parallel configuration - dont forget to set a suitable Filter Mix or Modulation as required

It's a massive synth (congrats on such an accomplishment - I will also be making a small donation!), and this OSC is teaching me a lot since I'm definitely having to dive a little deeper than I normally do... Hope you are making an entry as well - I would love to hear some of your sound designs!!

Ordinarily I use QTractor, but I've evaluated VSTs under fsthost. I tend to use Linux native plugs and instruments where I can. I've not really felt a horrid latency when playing a VST live from a controller.

There's no clearly indicated field to paste into, and placing the cursor in settings and pasting isn't doing it. While it's far too late now to get a tune out, I was hoping to have a go and see if this was worth putting in the stable.

OK. I found that the lower gray bar is a text field, but I still get no sound.

Hello, thanks for helping everyone out with explaining these parts of the synth.

However, I keep trying to get OSC C to output noise, but to no avail.
I select "Noise" from the dropdown menu, but when I press a key on the keyboard, no sound comes out.
Usually synths will have a mixer section where you can control the volume levels of all the oscillators. This synth has a mixer, but I've tried messing with all the knobs and still can't get OSC C to work with the noise option. It outputs sound when I select "single" but when I select "noise", nothing.
Any help appreciated, thanks.

Try putting something in one of the modulation slots for OSC C e.g. 'octave' and turn the dial all the way left or right. It seems the noise needs a modulation to work.

after instantiating/loading the synth it should come up with the preset "OneNote Chord+Bass".
Here's how to get "noise" going on from there:
- disable OSC A + B
- OSC C section: click on "mode" -> select "noise"
- OSC C section, Modulation: click on "Mod1 Source" (upmost entry in modulation list) -> select "octave"
- OSC C section, Modulation: now dial in the corresponding knob for the modulation depth in order to hear noise upon key stroke

you'd still have to disable all the FX via the "Multi FX" button if desired, as your noise is a pretty wet one right now

Looking forward to hearing any presets you come up with. One thing I noticed about this synth; it has some great presets, but it seems there isn't a "blank slate" default preset.

True. But as a hint - if you are using your noise (as I guess a lot of us are) as a percussive element, turn the compressor back on, and compress the sh%$t out of your patch with a sharp attack - at least that really helped for the type of sound I was looking for!
