No he think that we are all suckers because all we produce is complaining about various synths at various forum places while true talented artist need only 10 or so sounds to make great records.

And he is probably right for the great amount of people at KVR (myself included - i suck totally when it comes to music)...

One reason I love chiptune related music is that the outmoded soundchips used have such a severely limited palette of sounds... and yet people squeeze so much expression out of it. A little portamento and vibrato in the right places makes all the difference. If you can make a few squarewaves and a crappy LFSR noise generator groove, you can do anything.

Or that's how it feels sometimes, anyway

No no no...please do not misunderstand this post. I own BILLIONS of synths...uh VSTi. The point is, what do I need to make music?

For the record, I am not amused by Eno. But I am wrecked that I have tons of ammo, but no kill shots.

I don't know if any of it is groundbreaking but his approach to making Music is interesting. It reminds me a bit of a DVD I have by Gary Husband called Force Majeure (Live At The Queen Elizabeth Hall, London). On the DVD, Gary explains the thinking behind each piece of the music the Band play.

I'm not feeling too mesmerized this morning.

@ 3:45 he says "...just for playing ... good to have six or twelve really fantastic sounds."

I rely on a fairly limited range of color for my 'lead guitar tone', particularly for a single piece. or maybe there's an alternative sound for '2nd guitar' for contrast. I have a certain consistency because it's *like* the lead singer, who isn't going to sound like another singer.

But the 'pad' or 'bed' I may start with is there to create a mood, or sound world, and I may want to reside and dwell in that and populate that from a terrifically wide palette. And take a lot of time before that world is palpable.

I would advise against seeking a truism or a facile statement of great wisdom, or throwing the focus on such a sentence in favor of being contextual.
If you're having a bad time ever arriving at the eureka moment 'THAT is the sound, exactly that!' your own strategies are the issue. It may be that you do acquire synths in a sort of attention deficit mode and focus is hard to come by, I don't know. It may be better to focus on one synth and really get your chops in it, I don't know.

yeah, before that they were merely on the 'christian rock' circuit.

of course, to get back ontopic, since this is Eno, he's probably also said the exact opposite to the contents of this vid, with just as much conviction, at least twice.
