Nope, HERE is the bottom line:sfd wrote:Here is the bottom line:
"it's what it is [...] YES, I made the GUI this way because I like it (a lot) and it inspires me."
If money is the only motive the GUI designer could think of for taking the users, or potential users, issues into serious consideration - he'll naturally state that it's a freeware.
As such he simply don't have to care - take it or leave it.
However - if the designer could think of other motives. other then money, personal taste etc, he would naturally be interested in taking users or potential users issues into serous consideration.
Different designer have different attitudes and different motives. It's simple a matter of the nature of the designer.
If a designer makes certain decisions, being it in freeware or even commercial stuff, it is in the end the designers call how to go about that. Now, when a small (actually just a few) people don't like the decisions made by the designer, they tend to be the screamers that attract all the attention, totally ignoring the fact that the designer has (probably, but only the designer knows that) made decisions based on 'other' things that are deemed important to the designer. And yes, no matter it being freeware or commercial, adding additional support for a small group of people simply does take additional time and effort, and the designer (and developer likewise) have again make decisions as to how to go about it. And if they decide not to add those requested features, it should be simply 'that'.
Now, the fact that it IS freeware does bring one important dynamic to the issue: when you buy software, in most cases you pay for the option to have updates and might expect support. However, when someone is GIVING you something for free, you are not somehow entitled to something, besides the simple fact that you should say 'thank you'.
And somehow the 'bitching crowd' totally failed to pick up on the fact that Björn and myself are already addressing the issue discussed. I can tell you that the continuing whining does certainly not inspire us to so.
So, this part of the discussion has run it's course. I'll leave it at that.
