Attila,

I seem to be consistently having unexpected problems with using the Morph generator properly when I import a MIDI file, and then attempt to insert the MORPH generator into any of its tracks.

When I create a new composition (as both the manual and tutorial suggest ) , and select a couple of phrases ( a target and a destination) from the existing PHRASE generator pool, all works as expected !!! However, when using an imported MIDI file, I get random unexpected behavior within the MIDI file . . . I designate both a source and destination bar, ( with 1 empty bar in between ) , but the generation and location of the MORPH tool is ALWAYS strange and unexpected and not understandable ...

Am I unable to apply the morph tool to an imported MIDI file ? Must I first transform (somehow ) the MIDI file into multi-many-many small phrases (sic) in order to properly define both the source and target phrases for a MORPH ? Is an imported MIDI file unable to allow this kind of behavior ?

regards.

Hi Atonal,

the Phrase Morpher works best for 1 bar phrases, so ideally the source and target are 3-6 beats long. It is also a good idea to allow some 'space' for the Phrase Morpher for changing/morphing, so the following will not work too well, especially when phrase 'A' and 'B' are very different:
[ Phrase A: 1 bar ] [ Phrase Morpher: 1 bar ] [ Phrase B: 1 bar ]
If I remember well, the source and target phrase should have the same length, but I think different lengths are handled too.
If the results are strange or unexpected, you can still Regenerate the Phrase Morpher or set different parameters.
If you have a MIDI file that does not behave well, I will gladly check it if you send it to me privately.
Must I first transform (somehow ) the MIDI file into multi-many-many small phrases (sic) in order to properly define both the source and target phrases for a MORPH ?
Right, you need to prepare or cut the source and the target phrase to the desired length, and remove everything between them. It is easy to split phrases, by setting the playback position, selecting the phrase to split, then pressing the backslash key.

Thanks,
Attila
