It was all about the rom-samples above the synth engine.
And the ability to easily layer those samples (romples).

And even with Omni, you find that the packing multiple engines in it doesn't mean you have the best of each of those engines. Some are good, some are below average and more about the the idea of using a buzz term no one seems to use in it anyway. In comparison of each of those engines to other synths using the same method, omni has lagged behind the current trends and market expectations.
name the synths... please?

Since Omni can only do that and not import other samples, this is what makes it a "rompler".
Then Massive must be a Rompler, too, because you can't import your own wavetables... ;)

My defintion of a Rompler is a device without a dedicated synth engine. And this is definately no true with Omnisphere.

But I don't need to win a war here. Just sayin'...
Lots of hardware romplers also have synth engines... Of course there is grey area, but Rompler fits Omni reasonably well...

Maybe we should call the other ones "ramplers" to distinguish them from samplers that can actually sample and not just play imported samples?
come on man... sampletank 3 and halion sonic are "romplers"...

if you want to go by definition... you are correct... but sampletank 3 and halion sonic are "romplers"...

i would not put Omni in the same class as sampletank 3 and halion sonic...
Neither would I. :D

and it is written... going forward...

"ROM" = Read Only Memory = "ROMPLER"

:tu:

now that we know that Omni is a rompler... does that subtract anything from what it is capable of doing?

no, but it does inform people of its limitations

...if you completely ignore the synthesis half.

Half way to 10 pages of junk! Let's all push on through!

You keep misinforming the people. You can run Omnisphere without touching any of its samples.

Again: Do you own Omnisphere?

funny... you call it "limitations"... and i call it "one feature it does not have" i.e. importing samples...

all in all... it is a powerful tool... especially if you own trillian... not saying it is the best vst/i ever created... but for the individuals that do own both... i would bet it is on about 85% of their tracks... personally... i cant say that about any other tool i use..

hmmmm, let's see :

- idiot claiming that the only reason users defend omnisphere is to maintain it's perceived value, and in no way admit buyers remorse - check ✓

- the 'rompler' debate - check ✓

unless i'm wrong, all we're waiting for is the detractors to start screaming "FANBOIS !!" while foaming at the mouth

We also need some discussion of Spectrasonics' slow transfer times in days of yore.

I don't understand the logic behind 'it can't import samples so it's not any good'.
I use Kontakt for that - Omni does everything else I need.
As a matter of fact 90% of all I've produced the last 3 years have been done using only Omni/Kontakt/Stylus, but hey, each to his own.
