There was no Codex in 2013, yet ;)

I have both, but I like and use Element more. I like the basic sound of it more I guess. It's more "analog", darker, fatter. Also I find the features just right, I don't really miss anything in Element. The unison is different than what you have today, it can't do a supersaw kind of sounds, but try it on a bell or a pad and it may surprise you. Personally I'm not a huge fan of it tho, because it's a bit phasey with it's weird panning.

Retrologue can do some of the best unisons if you want it to just stack voices and detune, but it too has a hardcoded pan to it, when you add enough voices, it starts to spread automatically. Retrologue doesn't have an arpeggiator, which is big minus in my book. These days I almost never use Retrologue even if it does have quite decent sound to it. Retrologue is "crispier" than Element, doesn't sound as "analog" to me.
When I try to make a fat pad, it ends up sounding like a string machine :hihi:

Yep, that's the reason why i hardly use it anymore too. Unison and the inability to set the stereo spread is a big waste IMO.

I don't know.

I would disagree, I'm turning off the effects to a large degree to get the sound I'm after.

Perhaps it's more a question of genre

Sorry about any earlier rants about Steinberg support

Happy to report that I uninstalled Steinberg Retrologue and all the optional sound sets in an attempt to bring the Factory set back. The reinstall went fine and the Factory sound set is back with all my DAWs. Evidently, I had deleted one of the sound sets after the initial installation months ago. Luckily, I had saved the email invoice from Steinberg but the download link had expired.

Just wanted to say that my call to their support desk was easy, fast, and efficient... my problem was solved quickly with professionalism and courtesy.

I have a renewed faith in Steinberg - thanks so very much Steinberg! :tu:

And you actually get to own what you purchase of Steinberg.

With Waves, it's like a lease, 1 year later, and you need to renew your WUP.

I actually lost Element which I had bought but not renewed WUP for, when trying to install OK Pumper earlier this week :(

:?

You can't "lose" it. You simply cannot resell or upgrade to v10. Unless you wish to sell it or if v10 comes out, you do not need to update the wup.

That is my understanding as well. Essentially, no free upgrades.

I am not sure it is tied to version numbers, I think you can upgrade from 9 to 10 if the upgrade happens during your WUP period. Likewise you can't update within version 9 if your WUP has already expired.

WUP is still confusing. Will you get the small updates when your WUP expires? Or not? In the past you couldn't even re-authorize without WUP. I had to transfer the license to iLok to get it working again. The new authorisation works great!

I just updated all my plugs, and I also got the newest versions (9.x) for those whith already expired WUP.
