Velocity is controlling the glide amount. Its hard sample via round robin. The harder you hit the velocity it triggers different samples with varying degrees of glide. Many patches have this, try the egypitan guitars

About not using the star system, I don't use them much either. Rather I create Project folders and add the presets I like for certain types of songs into them.

Can it be the biggest conspiracy in the history of synths?
Every professional musician of
note, every major hollywood studio, every major industy music synth
award comittee got together and decided to lie
to part a few random dudes from kvr from their 500 bucks.
But they know better! Nobody can fool thrm, thank god!...
By the way there are 100 bazillion youtube videos demoing omni
including almost all factory and thirdbparty omni presets. Some folks will keep the ears plugged, the eyes closed, and the prejudices intact, and probably nothing can be done about it.
After spending thousands on things that have great reviews, rave videos, wonderful reputation, on crap I didn't use more than a few nights, I've learned it's always in the details. I mean, listen to any demo for any sample pack anywhere. You aren't just going to plug it in and get that sound. Its always a matter of how easy is it to get what you want to get to.
If I was looking for presets alone, I suppose your procedure would be adequate, but I'm not and really have never been.
My bottom line is, I simply don't buy software anymore without demoing it. When you're asking for $500 purchase price. I think they could spare the time to make a demo version like everyone else in the world.

Yeah man, but he did say "to me." I totally get that, just because everyone likes something doesn't mean that I will.cfanyc wrote:I think the argument above is utterly unconvincing.brekehan wrote:cfanyc wrote:see reviews in

maybe these guys should start using a "real" synth instead lol....

Exactly, and really, that's all you need to decide. There isn't any big secret of why it's worth $500. That's just what it costs and you can hear what it can do in those videos. If you're looking for more than that, it's not in there.By the way there are 100 bazillion youtube videos demoing omni

It's not about prejudices man, some people just don't think that the price is justifed. Doesn't mean that they're wrong, they just don't like what it does well enough to fork over $500.Some folks will keep the ears plugged, the eyes closed, and the prejudices intact, and probably nothing can be done about it.

This statement is wrong misleadingband contrived on two counts:V0RT3X wrote:asr10user wrote:V0RT3X wrote:
I guess it boils down to personal preference and how you view your work process. If you take pride in making your own sounds from scratch with your own sample sources like me then you might not like Omnisphere, because it lacks the ability to load in custom samples. However if that does not bother you, then by all means buy it as it is a very good rompler.
1. you can make your own sounds in omni from basic oscilators that generate
sines, saws, etc just like in old school subtractive synthesis.
There are whole third party libraries built like this. There are
libraries wuth the same patches built with a sampled waveform
and with basic oscilators of the synth engine. Results are
excellent both ways.
2. Because omni has a full blown synth engine that does not
require samples it is not a rompler. It is like trying to discredit
chef Battali's michelin star restaurant by calling it a pizza joint
because it has a pizza in the menu.
And finally the infinte regression of "making your own sounds": unless one makes
everything by himself there is no such thing. According to this logic
a concert pianist who buys a yamaha concert grand does not take
pride in making the sounds because he did not built the piano himself
from wood, metal and ivory. Or when one programs a modular they
did not really make the ound because they did not make the tubes and
the wires....

And let me add, it's actually easier to build from scratch with omni than some other stuff. Personally, I'd rather search endlessly for presets, and then tweak to perfection
but considering the options for omni, I think there is more there.
I do get tired of it being so slow loading at times, especially the vst. Trilian is the same way.

They should definitely do that because, if they did, it would totally be amazing.brekehan wrote: I think they could spare the time to make a demo version like everyone else in the world.

Put it this way, Omnisphere is a professionally done sound library on a scale (logistically difficult locations, situations) and with expertise (experienced sound engineers) and equipment (expensive microphones) that few third party sound libraries are likely to match. The quality shows in the sounds, and will lift most mixes to feel professional too. Also the focus is away from bread and butter sounds so as not to directly compete with Kontakt. Looked at in this perspective it may be worth $500.
However, balanced against that is that it is a closed system with no sampling capability and less diversity of third party sample libraries than a sampler that uses .wavs Using Alchemy, Harmor, or Iris, for example, you have more choice in what source material (3rd party .wavs or your own samples) to use and more modulation choices, giving more possibilities in creating a sound customized to your needs. It will likely require a great deal of effort and time which not all people may be willing to spend. Otherwise Omnisphere could just be the convenient (and high quality anyway) choice.
So Omnisphere is both worth the $500 and not worth it, depending on how much you have a Do-It-Yourself ethic towards sound creation as Vortex said. For myself, I prefer to get wavs and resynth through Harmor and Absynth, but I realize that this is a lot of work for maybe not superior results so I can see why others might just get Omnisphere instead.

Could be true, but I suspect Stylus RMX 2 would be the next release.

I also remember RMX 2 hopeful threads from YEARS ago. Not saying it won't happen, just saying I don't trust any information currently

Sounds like you have been talking to Music Matter I got my copy of Omni from there they know their stuff.
Lets hope it has a burning choir we've been asking for that for years.

believe this though, retail do quite often find out about gear before it hits the internet, many retail store know about rolands AIRA range long before it was announced
