Argh, I edited the background PNG somewhat, but after ResHacking the DLL the filesize of the DLL doesn't remain the same, so the plugin won't load in Reaper.

Try Explorersuite instead of ResHacker.

Not bad, but not really my taste, I like the blue dark one better

Also, the smaller font combined with pretty low contrast against the black background make the knob names less readable, in this case even for me.

It's a more readable font than the original one (IMHO), works well for me.

I tried looking at (and reading decals on) your version and it seriously gave me a headache from eye strain within less then a minute

I guess it is the lack of whitespace in the font you used, combined with the low contrast of the text. Narrow fonts are notoriously known for bad readability on screens. Take a look instead at the Verdana-font which was specifically designed for better readability on computer screens: it's basically (but not completely) an Arial-font made a fraction wider and with a tiny bit more whitespace (kerning). The font that is used on the Ragnarök skin was chosen for a certain retro-vibe, but also because it is a wider font with more whitespace which makes it less straining on the eyes when working with it for longer times

Sorry to hear that. This looks clear enough on my screen. Verdana/Arial are way too vanilla IMHO. I see them enough in Word and everywhere else.

Then again, I'm 28 and have pretty much perfect 20/20 vision. I might hate this variant of GUI in 20 years or so, who knows
